04+ Grand Prix has the date and chimes in with the factory radio. You lose those functions unless you buy a special (read: More expensive) harness. Then cars, like mine, with steering wheel radio controls needs an even more expensive harness.
At least I don't have HUD or Monsoon, because that harness is even more expensive.
The door chime is through the radio?
all new head units that are double din display the date
im not trying to sound argumentative but interested in the setbacks - that's all
My regal has the monsoon. The deck plugs into the stock harness The stock harness connects to the monsoon system. No changes had to be made.
Im intrigued that you guys have soo many hurdles and just wanted to see if I could offer any help
It's much easier to swap to an aftermarket stereo when your factory one is as base model s it could get... Lol
The eclipse was a bit different. It did need a rca type adoater
to utilize the whopping 35w amp under the passenger seat.
I ended up running 14g speaker wire to all 4 speakers (components and coaxial) to the 4ch amp in the trunk aka dead deck
the regal has the monsoon and it's highs and mids are good enough for me so I left the monsoon amp as-is. Even with 2 12s the highs and mids keep up
both cars use the PAC to keep steering wheel controls.
Yes the chime is through the radio. I don't care that the DD would display the date. I don't want to lose the date function on my DIC. I don't want to lose steering wheel radio controls either. It is what it is, and I really don't care anymore honestly. I never really intended on having the car this long anyway.
Yeah. I hear ya. Losing the info on a seperste display is EXACTLY what I ran into on the eclipse.
It has a clock pod above the radio on the dash. It shows the time and radio info
with an aftermarket stereo it just simply displays the time 24/7.
One cool idea I had was to grab a pod cover from a Sebring and cut out the display area to fit a ScanGauge in there. It fits perfectly. "I can't believe I didn't think of this before" but here I am end of 2016 and I never did install it lol
see the pod?
Here is a shîtty example of it at night
