I have an auxiliary input for my stock radio using the cassette tape module that was found on other GM models. I put a dummy tape into the cassette player and it plays the tape but the audio aux cable runs out to my center console so I can plug it into my phone.

This setup worked fine for years, but I think the cassette tape player is starting to kick the bucket. It will cycle forward and reverse a few times and spit the tape out with an E10 error appearing on the stock radio display. Are there methods to bypass the cassette player so I don't need a dummy tape to play over and over? I like the stock look and am not interested in aftermarket units.

not sure how to bypass it and make the aux still work, but im pretty sure the tape deck can be removed and replaced with another one.

ive got the same set up in mine, aux to the tape deck. iirc when i opened up the radio to mod it, the deck and my cd player all came out.

Have you tried replacing the dummy tape first? Those are pretty cheap, might be worth a try before you hassle with the radio.

I put the tape into an other old tape deck and wound it to about the middle of the tape. It reduces the effort needed for the spindles to move the tape. It worked fine in my GM tape deck.
