I would like to install a trans cooler on my 2006 Pontiac Gxp and I need to know which trans cooler line is the return. Is it the one at the top of the radiator or the bottom? Also where is the best spot to cut the return line to add in the aftermarket trans cooler? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Its the line that comes out of the bottom. I would completely bypass the radiator for best results...I'm gonna redo mine to bypass radiator. But if u don't wanna just cut the line in the area that isnt metal...near bottom of rad.

Follow the lines out the trans the horizontal metal line is the return the one that goes down is pressure. People say gm pit the lines for the return on top and pressure on bottom various reasons but I disagree completely with that. I run mine pressure side on top return on bottom.
Anyway you'll need to do some googleing for best location I had mine behind the DRL light hole forever but recently moved it into the front bumper area. Of course I had to take off the bumper though but its actually pretty easy to do.

Thank you so much for your help. So return line comes straight out of the trans then and hooks into the top or bottom of the radiator? Also where should I cut into the return line. I saw a writeup with pictures from bluestreak but it did not really show where to cut the return line to hook in the cooler. Thanks for the info 91ParkAve.

Ok so you said the return line is definitely the bottom line coming out of the radiator? Also should I just cut the rubber hose part of the return line in order to splice in the cooler? Thanks for your help.

Like marines said cut the rubber use barbed fittings Autozone sells air tool line repair/splice fittings use use those and double clamp with fuel injection line clamps those are some of the best to use imo and BTW its best to do this when your doing a pan drop filter replace

Great thanks again. I ordered the Hayden 1404 cooler of ebay. Is there anything else I need to complete the installation? I wanna get this right the first time it's my daily driver now. LOL

Can someone please tell me how to replace the transmission cooler lines on a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix Gxp??? I would like to put new cooler lines on the car before I add the trans cooler as the original lines are leaking. Thank you.

Where are they leaking and if they are just cut both and run them to your New cooler problem solved

They look to be leaking on the steel part of the line. I just want to replace them because I already purchased both of them today form the dealer. Is there a snap ring to release the old lines??

Think about this you're going to install a trans cooler so regardless you're gonna cut or modify the lines take the ones you bought back and get it over with already

Can someone please tell me how to release the transmission cooler lines for the radiator fittings. I got the car up up in the air and this is pissing me off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Take a small flat head screw driver or a pick and pop the little snap ring off

Thanks for all your help guys. I added a Hayden 1404 transmission cooler to the car and all is well so far. Hope it keeps my temps nice and cool. Car got up to 226F the first day I bought it. Now with the cooler the highest I have seen it is 190F.
