I need advice on what could be causing an issue in my 2005 GP GXP.

It all started when I bought my GXP with 42,000 miles last year. Whenever the car was at operating temperature and was sitting in Park or Neutral, there was a loud squealing sound coming from the Trans. Turns out it was the torque converter. I paid a shop to rebuild the trans with a new torque converter and that problem was solved.

About 2 weeks later, I hear a clunk coming somewhere from the front end going about 40 mph and up. You could only hear it on smooth road (I'm sure the noise is there no matter what but other road noise probably trumps it). The clunk can even be felt in the pedals and floor board on the driver's side. I took it back to the shop and I swore to them it was coming from the trans. They took it back apart, inspected it and said nothing was wrong with it.

I've basically replaced every suspension part in the front end that I thought was making the clunk including my half shafts, ball joints, struts/mounts, inspected the sway bar links/bushings, engine/trans mounts...and nothing! Seriously frustrated...any ideas????

If the sound isn't for sure metal on metal, I would look at the tires. Maybe the belt is jacked up. When you say clunk, do you mean something that's kind of random or something that seems to be related to speed (ie frequency gets higher as speed increases).

The clunk happens randomly but always sounds the same at any speed above 40mph. It does seem to be at its loudest when the car is at operating temperature.

I've been contemplating a couple things it might be that I haven't checked yet....a buddy of mine suggested that the flywheel maybe be catching and making the noise. Another possibility is it's something to do with the traction control, When the tires break loose and the traction control activates, as it nears the end of its cycle, there's a loud clunk as if the car is being forced into a gear or something (this maybe nnormal, i don't know).

I have yet to find out how the traction control ties in to the transmission and if it has anything to do with the abs?

Traction control, ABS, and stability control all take place in the controller right below the master cylinder called the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). All three use a motor and some valves to block pressure or send pressure to the brakes. They're not really transmission related, but I don't notice a loud clunk when the system stops working. You can here the EBCM self test once you put the car in gear and get going a couple miles an hour. The self test isn't the loudest noise it can make, but it always sounds like that.
