Here are some pics installed on my car.
Ok, just gonna chime in, dont yell at me.
Spent a total of $60 dollars.
$50 on a K&N filter at Advance,
$10 on 4" pipe.
Stuck it together on my dads LT1 Caprice.
Looks pretty damn good actually, got about another 3MPGs on the highway, and spent a total of like 1 hour on it. It's def. got more grunt off the line.
so was it easier to take that brace off to put the CAI in?
Taking the brace off was very simple...just the 3 bolts and it mounted back up with no problems.
Tubing looks small and that bend looks too sharp.
I don't think that making the tubing any bigger would help, since it is the exact width of the MAF housing. As far as the bend being sharp, I don't think that it could be less sharp and still get the filter in the same area as the stock airbox. It is still smoother then the bellowed stock tubing and crappy flowing airbox.
its the nearly 90* bend with that size tubing that restricts flow. If the tubing was larger the effect of the bend wouldnt be as severe. Same story if the bend wasnt as severe.
Either way, still better than stock.
it's noisy because the factory inserts combiantions of restricions and bellows in every car to keep the intake silent. It also slows it down, which is why replacing it gives you more power.
why has no one said fenderwell intake? I hade one on my Z28 and it worked great and yes went through puddles..
Or better yet why not take a look at your headlight when its out and see if you can get some ducting from one of the port holes on the bumper..ram air and cloder air..next time im changing the filter going to look at this.
i had the k&n on my 04' GTP it was nice but was over priced. i made my own on the GXP it is a fender well intake i used the piping for advanced and autozone and a k&n filter. when i get the time im going to make one at of stainless cause i dont like the plastic that close to the crossover pipe.
this is a link to my photos. it is on a thread about building your own cai. in the pics the maf is backwards but if you read the thread you should be fine

not trying to be a dick but why is it so hard to remember the colder the air the more power. the lower to the ground the more dense the air.
So any air filter in an engien bay would be not optimal..it will work but not optimal.
The old days you could get good heat dispersion with the space in the engine bay. The old carb and air filter setup worked. But still they wanted ram air or cowl induction for better performance.
Now a days you cant fit a paperclip into areas under the hood. Our engine bays are just loaded with heat. Only way to fix that is with ram air or CAI..a fendwell is the best bet. or to top it off a fenderwell with a connection to the lower scoop on the GXP's bumper for ram air
Now who is in MA and wants to make this a reality??
bends ruin flow.
so hot engine air going right into the engine is better than cold air thats gotta few bends?
prove it? Sure give me the two intakes and I will go to a local dyno with my car..
Like i have said before I was from the LT1 crowd. Thats what I know..I had stock then K/N filter in the stock box..moved up to the cone filter in the engine bay (that I rigged up myself with PVC and a cone filter, I lost power and slower 1/4 times) to my last setup with the CAI in the fender well. I ran my best times with the CAI in the fender. Take it for what its worth.
Like I said colder air with a few bends getting in there wins over heat soaked air from inside an engine bay.
