I basically cut the end of the connector off (kind of in half), which leaves you with metal leads encased in plastic. I left material on both ends of the connector so I could work with the connector end and the VLOM end. With some careful saw work and some melting, I exposed the metal enough to get a good contacts on both ends. I then soldered wires to the little metal leads that I had exposed, which electrically reformed the connector. I then used epoxy to protect my solder joints on both ends. If you need more detail or a better explanation let me know and I'll try to get back to you sooner.
