Its a good solid engine with some pep.
anyone have one on here?
It seems to me that someone on our local board had a V8, I cant remember who they were though, I'll have to see if I can find out and invite them here.
I am just wondering if I'm able to just throw the LS4 into the GT.....since te LS4 bolts up to the aluminum cradle.....
would make on heck ofa sleeper.
I need to find a good 4T80E trans.. I have a spare LS1/harness. hmmm this would be cool, either that or throw it in the fiero.
Hmmm, thats a tough one. V8's have been done in Fiero's before, so it wouldnt be anything new. In the GT though, yeah, I could see that surprising a few.
I can just hear the lobe at idle.......... this could work
what are everyone elses thoughts?
first v8 on this forum---whoo!
anything can be done to any car its just how much you want to put into it (here is a picture of someone at fastfieros.com that put an ls1 in a gp.
the concept is: why would you want to? other than being probably the only one to do such a thing theres plenty of aftermarket performance for your car as it is---enough to make it much faster than my car.
if its for the "wow" factor, i would love to see someone do it It would be quite a bit of work though.
as for upgradeability--most ls based parts can work in the engine such as cams and such, but its very difficult to get to and can involve removing the engine. all the mods ive done are the easy ones--i still have my warranty to worry about, but there is a cartuning turbo kit being developed that can make these cars very interesting (12.3ish quarter miles, and nearly 500 whp) but the tranny is a weak link much like the rest of the gps, its the a (mildly) upgraded version of the 4t65e thats typically mated with this engine and unfortunately some are on their 5th transmission literally.
so yeah, anything you want can be accomplished, you just gotta pay to play :-/
but wouldnt the 4T80 bolt right up to it since it is a V8?
Welcome to the site by the way!
thanks for the welcome!
I couldnt answer about the tranny--i know some of the cadillacs had that transmission and the bonneville gxp had it as well. Im sure its do-able but for whatever reason the more common solution is to build up the stock with the parts available from zzp/other. Id be curious if the 80 wouldnt hold up a little better--but i dont want to jinx myself, mine has been doing just fine even after removing a good portion of torque management. the rumor is that when they replace the transmission its usually with a remanufactured one--which is typically not as good as the original.
the turbo gxp is running on the stock tranny for now (with a shift kit) its all luck of the draw
A Goodwrench reman transmission is just as good as new. The case is the only thing reused on it, and it comes with a better warranty than the car did....which is kinda sad.
Honestly??? Transmissions just don't go bad one right after the other like that. I work at a dealership too...and it just doesn't happen.
Don't wanna call him a liar or anything....but seriously if they all had that problem, there would be one HUGE recall.
You gotta realize...a dealer has to have suspicions when a car comes in for FIVE transmissions within 50k miles.
I'd be looking into some issue with the car itself...be it a PCM problem with transmission settings.
Perhaps Dave would be able to shed some light on the subject.
another V8 guy here...and I agree...upgrade what you have - much more potential........for the cost of the 5.3 alone - you could have a nice turbo kit for your GT.
besides, we feel special being few and far between
