Hey everyone. Owned 3 GPs now and this is the first time I've ever had to use a forum for an issue with one. Good to see the community going strong.

Currently own a 2008 GXP and just started having a odd transmission problem after 3 years of ownership. I do know they are garbage transmissions and I bought it knowing it was rebuilt 6 or so years ago. My problem started when I was using tap shift to downshift from 2nd to 1st while stopping at a light (something I like to do every so often to hear my exhaust lol). So I put it back in drive when I was waiting for the light and when it turned green my car didn't move. Put it back in tap shift and it took a second then slammed into gear and I was able to go. Knew something was wrong and I was only 1/4 mile from home so just drove it in first gear home. Turned it off checked the fluid which is good, checked to see if anything looked weird anywhere and seemed normal. Started it back up and the car moved forward while it was in park which freaked me out. So I tried the other gears and it won't move in any other gear other than when I start the car or give it gas while in park.

I called a local reliable transmission place and he said that's a first for him but he's two weeks out to even look at it. I can see the linkage on top of the tranny moving just fine. Disconnected the battery to maybe reset something and still nothing. So hopefully someone has some ideas to try before I get it in the shop. Thanks and sorry for the long post.

sounds like the forward band broke. typically they will move if you shift to 1st then go and manually shift the gears.

Yeah it doesn't do anything in tap shift when I change gears. Would it really allow me to drive in park if the forward band was broke?
