Hello, my 09 SS is down currently for a collapsed lifter. I plan on doing the lifters myself and I'm going to tune out the Active Fuel Management while the car is down. My question is which lifters to go with? I read that some people are using the LS7 lifters now. ANy info would be appreciated! Here is a video of the car with the valve cover off

You must swap the camshaft too, you can't just swap lifters. You have to do the full DoD delete if you really want it all gone.

LS7's lifters are the most popular for the switch though.

This isn't true, there are people that have kept the original setup and just had the AFM tuned out. I'm just wanting to upgrade since I already have a collapsed lifter

How are you going to get around the fact that the DoD lifters are different lengths, the lifters trays are different and the fact that the DoD cylinders have different lift ratings on each cam lobe.

I think this part is true. You can keep the ENTIRE original setup and just turn off AFM/DOD and be fine.** No mechanical changes. Once you swap lifters, it's no longer the "original" setup. Does that make sense?

    Edit.
**Assuming there are no mechanical issues. Seems to not be the case for OP.

Just get a tune & if you feel you need to then replace the piston rings. Doing anything else is a waste of time & money if you aren't going for bigger cam/intake etc.

If you swap all non dod lifters on a stock dod cam you will have misfires. Dod lobes on the cam itself are different than the non dod lobes. Just order a stock ls2 cam and call it a day and do it right if your going the cheap route. You still will want a ls2 timing set with damper.

I would still just tune the damn thing and put new lifters in it.

It's going to be worlds easier than dropping the entire powertrain out of the car and putting a "stock" cam in there and gaining 20~ horse. Just not worth my time.

Thanks for the replies. Yes Blueguy, I agree and not to put anyones car down because there are some quick cars here but to me these cars aren't worth modding alot due to the Fwd and the trans issues some have. I brought my SS as a daily driver. I plan on a catback ,tune and c.a.i. I do own a Cobalt SS and a 05 Corvette that I do mod

I'd get a trans cooler on that list.

You can't tune out lifter failure. For the head to come off you don't need to drop the power train it can be done it in car

Never said it would; but nipping it in the butt if the car has low enough mileage could save it.

I had mine tuned at 50~k.
