    I was wondering if anyone runs egr with a fsic. I have a 04 comp g and I'm doing a slight build on it but would like to keep some gas mileage while cruising.

    Mines blocked off. No big MPG loss at all. Didn't even notice.

    Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of deleting the EGR when using an intercooler is to prevent carbon deposits from building up and blocking the fins on the core.

    And the EGR system is used to reduce emissions. I can't imagine it effecting gas mileage in any way really.

    I have a full size phenolic intercooler and the egr works just fine. had the supercharger off multiple times with no buildup on the intercooler. a properly functioning egr will support higher gas mileage.

    Step #1 throw away EGR and block off the holes...

    Step #2 debate throwing away Intercooler also......... LOL

    The EGR recirculates spend exhaust gases back into the intake...there's a little unburned fuel in there...so that gets reburned. There's no/very low O2 in the exhaust...that cools combustion temps. Is it a dramatic fuel mileage thing? Nope. Does it do its job? Yup.

    Eh, maybe by some minuscule amount perhaps, but can't imagine it would be noticeable really. I do know how the system is designed to work, I have a background as a GM technician for 8 years. What part of NC are you at Sven?

    Actually if you look at a tune, when the PCM detects that the EGR is non-functioning it actually takes away a decent amount of cruise timing (~10* IIRC), couple that with the whole unburnt fuel thing and some people can see a good 2-5MPG drop... I did, until I tuned it a day or two later then it was back on par...

    I would not run an egr with an IC. You will probably lose some mpg's, as stated above, but you really want to keep carbon from building up on your IC core.

    Yeah, I can understand that. Anytime the PCM thinks there is an issue or problem it may change things. I was going on the assumption that if the EGR was deleted it would be done properly and the PCM tuned accordingly.

    Let me phrase this differently. You know all that black crud in your SC and on the back of your TB? If you didn't have an EGR, those two would be nearly perfectly clean metal colored.

    You want that crap on your core?
    You want to restrict airflow through your core, more than the core by itself?
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
