Re: intercooler on stock engine?
we are forgetting that the IC we are talking about is a SS not a full size. without a pulley drop or tuning the gains will be minimal for just an SSIC on a stock engine. If you go pulley drop, there are cheaper safer ways to support the extra boost.
for not much more then a down pipe you can get headers. add to that the misc colder plugs, 180* stat, full tuneup, cold air intake. Then have an in-car-tune from someone local and you will have a safe car with more power then just dropping an IC on there.
I also feel IC are not foundation mods. Headers, cam/rockers, porting, tuning are. If your IC leaks or IC pump fails you are sol.
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
An intercooler should have came with these cars from the factory. It's a mod that can be done anytime and very rarely do people regret it especially on an m90. I would only run a short stack if I got the kit for less than $200 though. The full stacks do not typically lose much value and can be installed/deinstalled in a couple of hours.
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
I have consistantly witnessed 10-15whp gains from headers alone on otherwise bone stock 3800s... That means without tuning or a pulley drop.
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
If you don't think an intercooler is still an ideal option as a supporting modification or can control the heat issues these cars have...
Well then, LOL.
GM did do it right.
Then after it was faster than the C4 'Vette...they stuffed the dinner plate pulley on it and yanked off the IC. Ignorant.

^^I love that setup. PS tank up on the firewall, stainless IC lines, wrapped crossover and ceramic coated tubular manifolds, intercooled, 3.0" pulley...rated around 300CHP/350CTQ. Ran basement 14's spinning those heavy 18's from what I remember hearing from the GPG crowd.
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
^I wish they had gone through with it. Would have put Pontiac on the map for a lot more people.

Ive read about the engine, but never seen pics! GM will protect their thoroughbred at all costs... Damn shame really!
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
What's an average horsepower for guys running a 3.4 setup?
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
Every car is different.
One could make 220WHP, the other could make 240.
Too many variables.
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
Well Nick. We know why they yanked the IC off. We've already talked about this. GM couldn't have family sedans outrunning Vette's and Camaro's. Wasn't good for bidness.
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
Maybe they should have just made the Camaros and Vettes faster then. :P
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
Yeah I have seen truck shows on tv where they add superchargers with intercoolers to get more hp and torque for towing. it's obviously a common item built in to supercharges so why not a first mod? There is no rule book other than to avoid knock...
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
Tms I like your grille did you buy that or make it?
Re: intercooler on stock engine?
I bought them but had to tweak them a little to fit perfectly. Round some corners and bend/shape to fit a little better. This is a good company to deal with..
