Ok guys finally time to start doing my tranny on the car, I did the build about 3 months ago tranny lasted me about 2 weeks before it gave out. Some of you followed my build I will post some pics to refresh the memory. I do have some questions car ran fine, BUT I want to get the most out of it. First off are ported heads a good benefit on a cam like that? I Have seen the record for the cam and around 360-380whp and I will be happy with about 330whp and above.

Mods on the car Vs Cam, Stock heads right now, 90# springs, LS7 Lifters, Slp Headers, Borla Catback, Gen V 3.4 on 91Oct Tune, Still need my E85 Tune probably run a 3.0-3.2 which ever gives the best result, 60# Injectors, N*, Autolites 103's, PRJ Wires And fuel Pump Rewire, 8 Rib Setup, 180 drilled t-stat, Ported Lim, As far as engine goes I believe that is all. The heads I plan on installing I have in a GTX I purchased = SUpposed Stroked out GTX, I want to take them off that car and install it on to my VS Cam 40th Car.

Please let me know what you guys think, also can I run my 1.6 Yella Terra rockers with the VS Cam if so is it worth it to add them on there? Thanks in advance guys.

Hmmm. Is that GTX hood fiberglass or metal?

Well hell. I was told real GTX hoods are metal and the aftermarkets are fiberglass...hmm. Only reason I ask is because I have a gap from the hood to the front bumper cover like what you have.

Previous owner messed with the bumper I believe. But no I have 2 Gtx hoods original from SLP fiberglass. No metal ones were made.

Good to know. Any way to tell if you have a real SLP one?

In as-is configuration you'll make about 260whp, if your tune is good.
You need to ditch the drilled 180 and AL 103s in favor of a non-drilled 180 and AL 104s.
Also ditch the 90# springs and get yourself some 105s.
    Use stock rockers.

To get to 330whp you'll need to add e85, a great tune, a full stack IC, and worked heads. Even with all of that you will more than likely end up shy of your goal.

PRJ tune, E85 will be added, as well as ported heads. Why the 105s? And ditch the t stat as well as 103? I ask because that is what Paul suggested when I did the the build and came down to tune it.

So you built your motor and the trans went out? I guess I don't understand your questions? Are you pulling the motor again to swap trans and want to do more motor mods?
    Stage 1 Comp Cam / 105 Springs / Yella Terra 1.7's / SLP Headers / Ported heads / 255 Walbro fuel pump / Siemans 60# Injectors / 2.8 Pulley / 180 stat, 104 AL's / Intense e85 tune / 3" ZZP exhaust / GXP seats / KYB Coilovers /

Yes exactly that, why not do more motor mods while I have it out mainly, add a double roller chain and the ported heads. I just want around 300 plus to the wheels to hang against srt8 and such. I will be doin a XPZ on my gtx right after as well which is why I don't want to go crazy on this one. Just as I said why not while I have it out and since I have some extra ported heads kinda thing why not you know.

This Gtx is rare mainly because it had everything except the rear slp spoiler. Gtx hood, decals, SLP headers, Catback, rockers, pulley, and sway bars, as well as the striped hood and trunk lid.

The 105's would work better because like the 90# springs, they still support the lift of the VS cam and won't allow any valve float, but have a lower spring rate and won't wear your timing chain and tensioner as quickly as the 90's.

A 160 degree t-stat doesn't really help reduce KR any more than a 180 unless you're doing one EXTREME build, the 180 will work just as well and keep the motor closer to its original operating temp, helping it to burn fuel more efficiently. Same idea with switching to a warmer plug, unless the 103's give you a huge KR reduction, you'll most likely get more efficient combustion with the 104's, which can also translate to more power since more fuel is being utilized.

I've got a similar build with e85 and use 104's with a smaller gap so the extra boost generated by the 2.8 won't blow the spark out. This was all recommended by intense. The e85 really is awesome. Im sure with your bigger cam and ported lim plus ported blower you will be above 300 whp. If your going with a big cam and double roller timing chain I'd guess your going with 130 lb springs right? I need to port my blower and lim to top off my build.

But does it hurt to have a 160 t stat? I ask because it does get hot here when it does. So that is why Paul suggested that as well as the 103s.
I do get about 1* of KR but he didn't due the best tune due to the tranny slipping when he did it, what I do know is that it was left with 15* of timmimg.

The motor has a VS Cam which isn't big just slightly larger compared to stock. I want to add a double roller just to be safe I don't want the new stock single chain to wear out or the dampner.

What I practically want to know is, is it worth it to add ported heads, tear it back down and do the work again to add the heads? Will the gains be minimal or a good amount?

What gap do you have the plugs?

I'd much rather have the engine temps around 180-190 than 160-170. You also gotta figure that when the motor is colder, so is the motor oil and you don't want to keep the engine oil cool as it works better when its hotter.
