A pcm or powertrain control module is basically a computer that controls all the setting in your engine and trans. It depends on how the pcm is programmed if it will work in your car. I did give my vin number whenever I got a pcm tuned but I don't know if that is necessary or not.... Whenever I got a mail in tune I told intense all the mods I had on my engine and trans and they adjusted the setting to match my mods. For instance if the pcm you get is set for higher shift points and your motor is stock you will get valve float at high rpm. As far as the vin number thing idk

I honestly don't know bro.... I know Intense asked for my vin number but that might just be for the appropriate settings for that the model, year etc. In other words a 97 gtp might have slightly different settings and parts than a 2002.

As far as I am concerned it doesn't matter, usually as far as I know it's to make sure the PCM reads the same vin as the car for smog and such. I have switched a couple of PCM around and work fine without issues. Just make sure it works with the year you need. Like 98-02 I believe is the same gt or Gtp 97 and 03 are different.

Doesn't mean it was tuned. Most likely it was. But ya never know. Although an extra pcm never hurts anyway. Did the car have a modular pulley?

IIRC they did it for warranty reasons... Because, if the vin numbers were different it voided the warranty. Dont know if that is still true or not but thats what I remember way back when they did mine (literally ~6 years ago).
