    so, I decided to freshen up the bottem end of the l67 while I had the motor out, and ran into a problem. cylinder 5 had some pitting, so I started honing it and I think I honed a little too much. I opened the bore up to 3.802 and its still pitted. does anyone know the piston to wall clearance on these motors? I was really hoping I wouldnt have to go oversized on this motor. thanks in advance I can't seem to find it anywhere.

    btw its an o2 gtp with 180000 miles

    think so? I know it would be cheaper to do that than oversize this one

    Yeah, These blocks just do not take kindly to machine work. They are too thin to really work on them.

    Go to the junkyard, get a new engine and freshen the gaskets. Done.

    pictures of cyl walls? I have never seen anything in the cyl walls that hurt anyone. If the crank/main/rod bearings are in good shape you should be able to reassemble the motor, if you are lucky. I would just let the stock pistons/rings ride it out at this point.. the hone hurt you but its probably not going to show any problems in reality.

    I will try to get a picture here soon. I have new bearings and rings ready to go in. the rod bearings looked pretty bad but the mains looked great. I was hoping a quick hone would have knocked the pitting down enough.

    You do plan on having the bottom end assembled at a machine shop after they align bore it right? If you don't then you will have a 200-mile miracle on your hands. These engines do NOT last if this is not done. You will end up spinning a bearing and then lower end will be trash.

    Also, don't forget that the bolts are TTY and aren't reuseable (other than the crank balancer bolt). Good luck with your build.
