Finally decided what I'm going to do with my build. Nothing much but its something. Headers and rockers. Just wondering what is the best option for rockers since I want to just leave the stock springs in because of finances and someone else will be doing it. 1.8 seems to be the best option but I did recall that someone made 1.84 rockers?

Only other thing I will add once headers and rockers are on is a 3.5 MPS. That should be plenty to keep me happy for a while.

There has been a debate for a while that the stock rockers actually create more valve lift then a 1.8 roller rocker. it has something to do with the geometry where as the stock rocker approaches max life that the tip to valve contact drifts farther away from the fulcrum. where as a roller rocker maintains the same distance. It was also said that cars dynoed with stock rockers actually saw a HP decrease by switching to roller 1.8's

I would say another option would be the ER rockers or mod'd 1.9's. Or go with 1.9 roller.

Wow. Never knew that. I know intense pushes 1.8 and 1.9s but I didn't want to get real in depth with taking the springs out too and having to then add them and retainers. I'd do rockers myself but not 1.9s and springs, just seems like to much to go wrong lol.

What are the er rockers? A zzp product?

Just get modded 1.9 rockers and leave the rest stock.

How many miles are on your motor? If there isn't a ton, you should be fine.

But, if you can't afford to spend $75 on a set of springs and retainers, you probably shouldn't be modding your car.

I have money to mod, but its not a priority, and the reason I didnt want springs, is because I wont be doing the work, If It was just rockers, Id do it myself, But Im not about to drop $350 for a set of valve springs installed..

    Car has 150K miles

You should be ok with that mileage. Just get some modded stock 1.9 rockers, and enjoy.

    L76 springs/retainers are dirt cheap. (G8 springs...all together shouldn't run you more than $60~ at a dealer)

I'd always worry about tired valvefloatin' 3800 springs with a spring rating a .4lbs. because they suck.

And like stated, if you have the money to waste, get 1.95 rollers...only benefit is they're lighter.

If not, modded 1.9's will work just fine.

If it were me I wouldn't even bother with 1.8 rockers go 1.95s with l76 springs or leave it stock. besides springs shouldn't be that much more to change once you have the old rockers off it's 1 minute to hook up an air hold 1 minute to pull the retainer 1 minute to replace the valve seal (which is a nice bonus) and just as long to put it back together, I think my whole set took about 45 minutes with 10 of that being looking for a retainer I dropped into a crevase.

Roller rockers allow you to rev higher which would actually be more "performance" than the extra valve lift you would receive with stock non-roller rockers. General redline with stock rockers is around 6k roms. Roller rockers would allow you to rev to 7k. This is of course based on the power range of your cam.

Have a decent size compressor or a buddy that has one? Just install the valve springs yourself.

Not sure where you got this from, but none of it is true.

Spend the extra money on a new set of springs.

Currently, my car with 153k on the clock, has worn out stock springs. at 5500+ RPM I get lots of valve float causing quite the spike in KR.

New stiffer springs, such as L76, are cheap and well worth the money spent.

Do it right the first time, and thank yourself later.

Please get stiffer springs if you're going to get a higher ratio rocker and putting them on 150k springs, or don't do it at all. It's no worth the risk of snapping a Tired valve spring to save $60-80 and have ****ty higher rpm power with worn springs. For $200, you can buy an air compressor, the fitting for the spark plug hole, and a lever type spring compressor. Less if you buy a poverty air compressor. Plus air compressors get useful really quickly, and if you don't/can't spend the money on it, I wouldn't mod the car at all.

You don't even need a compressor. Move the piston to TDC, and let the valve sit on the piston.

never knew there could be so many options, for just a minor valvetrain setup

So what are my best option? Im seeing L76 springs, LS6 springs, 105# springs, some springs need certain retainers due to seat height.. Its all starting to get confusing on what goes with what lol .. Im guessing my best option is a modded 1.9 rocker, with what springs and what retainers? If the car need a rebuild down the road, I can pull the heads, cam etc etc, but I dont want to get that far into it right now, which is why I was just going to do rockers, but now Im thinking about doing springs, as Im sure they are pretty tired out, especially compared to a new 90# or 105..

So I guess I will just do headers first, then keep an eye open for modded 1.9s..

Also with just headers, no cat, should I be able to run a 3.6

Will said the tune he sent was good for rockers, headers and a 3.5 , but since I wont be doing rockers ( yet ) I would still like to drop a pulley and at least get it all installed.. Im guessing a 3.5 on a GenV is to much with just an intake headers, and overkill pcm?

If stock rockers give more lift than a 1.8 roller rockers... surely it would be safe to run 1.8 rollers with a XP hot cam on stock heads?

I'm getting a A2A installed soon for my m90... its a good option on our rwd Aussie commodores, very low intake temps and stupid amounts of low end torque increase... I have also decided to keep the rockers stock for the time being... Just not worth the risk on old stock springs for only 15rwhp. I will probably upgrading to L76 springs and 1.95 roller rockers at a later stage though.
