I'm pretty sure the real issue the very poor casting of the stock unit on 97-03 cars.
If you going to use that L26 you bought, it already is better than a 97-03 motor, so you would not need it.
What cam said. Series 3 ftw!
Ok
The block from my 2005 GP was stamped the Series 2 stamp, but the cars production date was 9/04 which is normal from what I have read.
I have this L26 block from a 2005 Buick Lacrosse and the stamp says 3800 Series.... and there is no number... is that normal?
My 05 L26 says Series II on it.
My '07 L26 just said 3800, no series. But I didn't may much attention, I was to busy looking at my new aluminum oil pan suckd on the bottom of it... LOL
The stamp broke at some point. No big deal.
That's just the spring out of a 04+ isn't it?
I bought one when I did my build 2 years ago. It's basically the stock spring and plunger with a washer under it to increase spring(oil) pressure. I did notice a increase in oil pressure. Holds 20lbs/in at idle
Actually guys, Ford stole the stamp from GM. That's why it disappeared from the block after certain years.
It's not a stamp, it's raised up so it's part of the mold they use to cast the blocks.
From an 06 L32:
Right now with a kit I got from rockauto I see 30-40 psi at idle and almost 90 at WOT.
The kit had the oil pump, spring, and plunger.
