    Hello All,

I have a 97 Grand Prix GTP with 228,000 miles, it idles rough and misfires also. I did a scan on her and these codes come up p0300 and p0441.

When she is in park or at a light and idleing the rpm gauge bounces up, the car jerks foward and the head lights flicker. I just purchased the car about a month ago and haven't had a chance to get a tune up yet. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Ok thanks! I have looked up them codes and got some info on them.

I want to know if some other members here have had this problem and if they did what was the fix. Just looking for some options.

    Thanks
    Again

Start with new plugs and wires.

If it still does it, then look into coils or the ICM, depending on which cylinder(s) is misfiring.

Flip.. to give you a little info on getting help. I got lazy one day and stopped looking up codes. These days I suggest the poster put the code number and the name of the code if they'd like some help.

I know RMM, but which evap is 441? Help us help you.. cause these days I'm lazier or busier than I used to be and many other member have found that the "help us help you" works well.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

while doing the tune up, give the throttle body a good cleaning, maf as well. These cars are notoriously simple to fix things like this.

    Could this be the alternator?

I check the alternator with a volt meter. When car is off the battery reads 12.8 volts and when its running I get14v for the first 5 minutes and it goes down to 12.8 to 13. It also does a lot of fluctuating on the volts, up and down. Also when i disconnected the positive cable on the battery it stalled. Is that normal on these cars?

Note: While this is doing that the headlights and dash lights also get dim.

Well, fellas and gals! It wasn't the alternator that was bad because I put a remanufactured one in there from Pep Boys and its still the same. I am going to return it and put my old one back in.

I am thinking its the MAF sensor now. I am going to the junk yard this weekend and try to find one there.

    I will update!

I had this exact problem for like 4 months after I bought the car, I did new plugs, new wires, iac valve, coil packs, u name it Nothing solved it. Until I got a professional diagnosis from a local shop that found my intake gasket was leaking into a vacuum somewhere. So maby u have something along that line. Just trying to save u the time and money plus headache trying to find it, That's what mine was throwing the same p0300 codes too. Good luck

I think this problem is the Fuel Pressure Regulator. What do you think?
The hose that goes to the fpr is dry rotted and cracked at the nipple.

    Also here

I just touched them and they cracked right off.
