We had the block, rods, pistons and heads cleaned, checked and reconditioned our L67. My mechanic friend helped me dissemble and mark the rods. We purchased new bearings and all ARP bolts. Took it all to the machine shop and had block reconditioned, cam bearings pressed in, the rotating assembly balanced everything honed.... the whole 9 yards... The crank is torqued down, installed rings and then went to install pistons and rods however....

We marked the rods and pistons and kept the caps in the proper orientation.... However the only thing we didn't make note was the piston orientation. I think the numbers on the top of the piston go to the front of the motor but not positive. I can't see an arrow, dot or an F on the piston... Does anybody know if there is a way tell the piston orientation?

    Thanks,
    Tim

According to Google and 3800Pro, #'s on top go toward the front.

This is me looking down at the front bank dead on. So the WP is to the left

Take a look at where the pin would go. In this one, the #5 cylinder has the number on the bottom left but there is other wriing on teh top left. Looks like it's always to the front though. Depending on where they put the number.

Always seems to be on the left/WP end of the motor

I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks Bill, I called Intense and they said you can put them in either way but I did it with the numbers to the front as you show it in your pics just to be safe. There is a little more material on the bottom of the pistons (little ridges) that face the front too. Most people that rebuild engines need new pistons but our motor just needed a minor hone and the pistons looked almost new after cleaning so we re-used them. Crank, Pistons and heads are torqued down. Cam, lifters, push rods and rockers are going in tonight.

The ridges next to the wrist pin are on the same side as the numbers also.
