Whats the reason for gutting it?

If it still works, just leave it.

Preventing a clog that's probably bound to happen?

    Who knows.

Just cut it out and buy a converter from Frozen Boost. They look like a high flow cat but have a straight section of pipe right through them.

if you dont want it to be seen by the state inspectors its best to drop the DP and cut the top open, gut it, weld it back shut.

the check engine light may come on when your done. just so you know.
