No, the point of the double roller is a dampner is not needed.
Oh ok. my mistake.
I went through that when I installed mine and got this answer from intense... I did bend the spring ever so slightly so it wasn't as much tension on it.
The chain damper is a touchy subject; I do believe the damper is needed with any chain mainly because I have seen a few instances where people got engine damage from not running one, but I am aware that the do have a shorter life when used specifically with the double chain. It’s hard to give you a life expectancy because sometimes they only last a few weeks while other times they last years, most of the wear people see happens when the engine is still fresh and the chain is tight, once the chain gets some miles on it and stretches a bit wear is significantly reduced. Generally I recommend you break in the engine and drive it for a short time (a few weeks should do) then change out the damper.
Ok i just broke everything back down and removed the dampener
It's mainly there to keep the crank and valve in time when the chain stretches, but another big reason is chain slap. When the chain stretches it can flip around kinda violently(chain slap) and that causes even more stretching and premature wear. Or breakage as I've seen a lot of double rollers do way before their stock single chains with tensioners have. Mine has been in several thousand miles without issues. Anyone recommending no tensioner have reasoning behind saying so??

It's not a timing issue...because that's covered on the tight side of the chain. It's mostly slapping around. I've installed both ways.
I kinda worded that first part wrong but yeah that's why most of what I said was about the slap... I see plenty never have any problems not running a tensioner but I still wonder if those few broken gears and chains I've seen coulda been prevented with a tensioner so I chose to run one because nobody could give me a good reason not to and I had at least 1 reason to run one. And yes I know about the gears that didn't fit right that led to a few breaking.
So which one was better for you bill?
