Local High school kid has a 97-03 GTP with no flow mods and what looks to be a 3.2 pulley Lately the car has been breaking the spark plug in cyl 3. It has done this three times so far. I was thinking detonation at the worst forum or maybe rod play, crank play, or a worn out wrist pin? And what are the chances of the spark plug debris going out the exhaust?

Do a compression and leak down test. A borescope would be ideal to look around.

    Likely though..he's a murderer

He was running open downpipe for the longest time and started to see this when he put his exhaust back on.

open down pipe, i love kids lol

back in the day, in HS i had a 77 GMC pick up truck, 4 speed and a 350, i put long tube headers on it and a 1 foot pipe with a turbo muffler off each header, and that was it! it was loud as could be. and i liked it, but i was also 17 lol

heh, I drove open down pipe in the Oldsmobile for a week while I was in high school. The cat that we crushed clamp installed fell off while driving. I am pretty sure that it is why I still hear ringing in my ears from time to time to this day.

How else would there be physical damage to a spark plug.

Piece of piston said, 'ELLO MATE.

And bam, you have a busted plug.

Tell him to have fun learning how to pull a motor and go read on how to mod this platform.

    Doofy.

Three times? I am convinced it is a chipped piston and I can picture chunks of plugs floating around in there too.

i see dents in the bowl of the head and piston, and dents in the valves. and of course chunks missing from around the piston.

I had pieces of piston in the muffler.

    It's doable.

Compression is normal in the cylinder. He is locating a 3.8 pulley for his hub. if its still doing it I am calling out the wrist pin.
