hey guys wasn't sure where to post this so i'd figure i'd post it here. was changing my oil and as i was filling it back up i spilt some which got on my header and of course it has the heatshield. i drove it to go get a couple of headlights and when i came back i saw burning oil coming from the header, yes it smells like oil. engine was cool when i went to drive. what i'm wondering is should i try and rinse it off or would it be ok sitting over night then driving to work tomorrow morning. i think it might be alright. any help would be appreciated.

You should be okay, it will normally cook off pretty quickly once the manifolds have gotten up to temp. You can also just idle the thing and that will get it hot enough to cook it all off too and you could monitor things that way with the hood open and make sure nothing else goes to smokin'.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. If you can see it, you may try to soak up as much as you can with a rag. But if you can't no biggie. Just drive it...

again guys thanks a lot for all of the help. that's what i figured what would happen. just a little paranoid i guess lol. i let it sit overnight and drove to work which is like 45 minutes one way and checked it when i got to work showed a little bit of smoke and when i got home didn't notice any smoke . also last night while i was at it i decided to take of my engine cover finally and in my opinion it looks so much better. gotta show off that gorgeous M90. also it seems that my engine runs slightly cooler

let it burn off, it wont hurt anything at all besides your nose hairs.

I used to spill it on my headers all the time, never ever caught fire.
