I have a 2005 GTP, and it runs absolutely perfect when the engine is cold. But after the engine warms up, sits for 20-30 minutes, and I restart the car and take of. The car acts like it's not getting any gas, sputters, and will hit 4000rpm just to get going. I always use the Shell 93 V-power gas in it, so I don't think I have bad gas. And then after the engine cools off for a few hours, boom, it's a rocket again.

Any ideas? I love this car, but this is really annoying.

So as soon as it gets warm it will do that the whole time or will it stop?

    No SES lights.

And I wish I knew if it was the cat or not. If it was the cat, wouldn't it also be sluggish when the engine was cold?

After I run it enough for the engine to get warm, it only happens after I shut the car off, let it sit for 20-30 minutes, and then take off again.

And after 20 minutes, when I take off again and it's sluggish, eventually it seems to work its way out as I keep a constant speed.

If I start it cold, then its fine the whole time, even when the engine heats up.

I'm sorry, but I'm not a mechanic by any means. I know maf means mass air flow, but what is it that I need to unplug? And where is the plug?

Also, Can I run with it unplugged for a while? Or is this a short term thing?

your maf sensor is in the the plastic tube in from the air box to the throttle body. with the car off, unplug it, then start it up, if it runs better with it un plugged, then the maf is shot, or the wires to the plug for the maf sensor its self are going bad.

doing this will make the check engine light come on.

Thanks. I've figured out how to unplug the MAF sensor, so I'm going to try this tonight. I understand that the check engine light will come on, but will it go out once the plug is inserted again? I'm not going to have to go to the dealership to have them reset something, will I?

if your maf is not the problem it should turn off after a few days.

or you can unhook the battery for 30 minutes, and that will clear the code for you.

You can go to autozone and have them check the code and clear it for free

Well, I ran the car a few miles with the MAF sensor plugged in, shut it off and let it sit 30 minutes. Then I unplugged the MAF sensor, started the car, took off and didn't experience any issues. I got back to the house, plugged the sensor back in again, took off again and still no issues. So I'm not sure if I even accomplished anything with this test. I did notice that the air conditioning was blowing hot air with it unplugged.

Also, the check engine light never did come on. Not sure if that's an issue or not.

Should I clean the MAF sensor with the MAF sensor cleaner? Any other ideas?

thats odd that the cel didnt come on. check for a blown fuse maybe. cleaning the maf cant hurt. only use maf cleaner.

I'm leaning towards fuel pressure/weak pump....or even the electronic throttle....try to reset your adaptations for fuel/air mix
