id like to know more about what i need to run this. is it strictly injectors (need way more fuel dumping in)? i just bought some 65# injectors, so im good in that department. do i need to replace any fuel lines or anything related to that (pump)? i know im going to need to replace the fuel filter a few times since the ethanol cleans out the gas tank.

also...tuning? still the same AFR as gas (11.5-12.0)? im going to have my wideband installed by the time i switch over.

wish i could help but since it is not available around me I havent gotten to the stage you have. I think (someone correct me if im wrong) that you just need like new o-rings for the fuel injectors ect. Because the fuel will eventually eat through the stock rubber stuff...Viton seals i belive is what you need....maybe....I'm sure someone else can elaborate on this more.

AFR is different. Maybe Ron Vogel will show up and post since he done it and is now back to gas.

Over at the other forum Cornburnin is running it, although I wouldn't ask him anything.

why would you refrain from asking him things? i already PMed him, hah.

otherwise ive heard the o-rings are okay since they are synthetic. the thing im not sure about is my gas tank, since i have a 98 and its a metal one. do the metal gas tanks have a teflon coating or anything to prevent corrosion? i hope this doesnt eat through my fuel lines either since im going to be storing the car whenever i pick up a beater to drive.

I think it may have been the fuel lines that i was talking about....Shoot vinne said something about it in a thread a while back...I remember asking him about it in the thread and him telling me something....so yeah hopefully he can give you some insight.

Because he is wrong about basic stuff, and has a dirt bag attitude with new people asking questions. There are a handful of guys over on that board, that are worthless. Shadetree mechanics, that may know a little, and treat the newbs like crap. /rant

    Ethanol AFR is 9.0:1

So you can verify, because I don't want to be wrong and have you make a mistake because of me.

from what i read somewhere else a while ago, you need new injectors (as you use 30% more E85 than gas) you also need (i think) new rubber lines and pump...due to the volitity of the fuel and increased flow....again...i read about it a while ago so i might be wrong....

everything in the fuel system should hold up fine. what im worried about is my gas tank possibly being a metal one, which would be a no no.

holy crap, a 9.7:1 stoich!? that A LOT OF FUEL!

no reason to run it? only like having 105 octane ALL THE TIME. but..no big deal. running 12s with bolt ons is easy. HAH!

What about the fact that E85 has less energy density. Sure you may be pushing a little more boost and timing, but you will also have to overcome the fact that every ounce of E85 is "weaker" than every ounce of gasoline.

I only buy my gas on base because they guarantee no ethanol at all.

    But what if you're slower?

For the record, gasoline has an energy density of 34.6 MJ/L while E85 has 25.65 MJ/L. Big difference. For comparison, E10 that most stations sell has 33.72 MJ/L. You'd have to cram about 40% more fuel in using E85 to get the same theoretical energy output as straight gasoline.

While my car is only a DD and not raced, I'm not interested in running this, but I've read many places were running at the track E85 was working well.

I wish Ron would come in and tell us why he switched back. It may helpful to others.

....so you use 40% more fuel..but youre still getting a 105 octane rating on it...im not seeing the downside to this yet.

more boost AND more timing? even better. i dont care if i go through a tank of gas in 200 miles.

I thought that was pretty interesting. I don't know if anyone else has seen that yet. I definately have the equipment and space to do something like this so adding E85 to my future GP would be pretty great economically...
