yeah just make sure you know which ones go where.
Got it off redneck version worked like a charm! Thanks guys
Rednecks FTW!! LOL
246 -rear head
135 -front head
(looking at the engine, from the front, like if you opened the hood)
i got that **** memorized from doing spark plugs all the fuggin time lol
Final thought, when putting all this back together I didnt think about putting on any lock tite or anything on the balancer bolt. I just impacted it back on. Should I pull it again and put some sort of lock tite on it?
GM ACDelco - Crankshaft Bolt #GM-24504736
If you used a new TTY bolt: 111 ft/lbs + 76 degrees angle torque up to 10/98
111 ft/lbs +114 degrees angle torque 10/98 and up
If you reused the old bolt just torque it to 111 ft/lbs because it has already been stretched. Put some moly grease on the friction surfaces. That's what I did on my last rebuild and no problems yet.
I've never put locktite on the HB bolt, and I reuse the stock bolt all the time.
After putting the balancer on by hand and getting it to engage the key in the keyway, I zip that bolt on with my impact. Never an issue..never a worry.
Thanks Bill, just thought id ask cause ya never know!
try hitting the end of the bolt with a smaLL SLEDGE the somethimes jars the lock tight and breaks it loose
Hi Guys, I'm getting ready to do a crank position sensor job on a 3.8.
Could someone describe to me how to lock the flexplate to hold the crank still while loosening/tightening the harmonic balancer bolt? Thanks!
(side note, I too have used the "redneck method" for loosening the bolt on a hyundai, but I don't have a good method for tightening the bolt, which is why I'd like to know more about this flexplate method...thanks!)
pop off inspection cover, two 10 mm head bolts, place vice grips on there very tight, enjoy.
Like a puller?
Thanks Matt! I got it, that's an awesome tip, makes life so much easier! (to clarify the inspection cover is a plastic over just rearward of the starter).
