So I recently purchased an '02 GTP. It runs really well. I have noticed that the water temp isnt getting warm/hot. Example: I drive to work at 85mph, outside temp 75* and the car gets to about 170-175. If I stop or drive 55mph it will rise to about 180-183. It rarely, if at all, gets over 185. Even when its 106* outside and i'm on the freeway doing 85mph.

Is this normal? I have not looked at the t-stat yet, i was gonna wait to hear from you all here first.

Sounds like a thermostat to me!! It is either missing, stuck open or it opens to early.

    Good luck!!!

108* if your going to try and run a 3.4" pulley. If you are hoping to get a 3.4" pulley w\o Kr then also make sure you plan on getting a cold air intake, some exhaust work [a downpipe at the very least] a new PCM (or tune) and colder plugs.

Can you tell if the fans are coming on to maintain the temps you mentioned? If so then perhaps you have a 180* drilled thermostat and the fans are helping it do the job.
Also are you using a scanner to verify those temps?

ok - i am nt using a scanner. And both fans turn on at 185 (according to the gauge).

Thats the prob buying used - i dont know what was done to the car yet! Do you think the PCM has been programmed to turn the fans on at 185?

If the fan comes on at 185* assuming your gauge is correct then the PCM has to have been ajusted. Here are the stock settings.

The best way is with a scanner to read exactly what the temps are. The gauge on your dash is highly inaccurate. With my 195° stat in, my gauge reads somewhere around 160°. But my scanner shows that it is 190-195°. So the best way to verify is with a scanner.

Don't ever trust the dash temp gauge except for general cold/hot.
