Cruising along at 55mph and the engine just quit running. I can hear the fuel pump running when I turn the key on. Just got it towed home. Car cranks but does not attempt to start.

^this^. If you have fuel but no spark then I'd maybe lean towards the ICM, or possibly the crankshaft position sensor. Did you happen to notice if the tach dropped to 0 before it died? That would make a case for the CKPS.

My 00 GT just did the same thing to me on Monday. Turns out I had a cracked coil and a bad ICM. Of course mine would still start/run but had misfires out the ying yang.

Okay. I have spark to front 3 cylinders when I plug in a spare spark plug. The schrader valve on fuel rail has pressure when I push the valve in. The inj1 and inj2 fuses are good and a spare fuel injector makes a clicking sound when plugged in and cranking.

I will have to pull spark plugs and maybe check for compression. Any problems with the Zzp single chain timing sets from 3 years ago?????

I will have to check which chain i bought.

Will the crank or cam sensor cause this? It just cranks with no attempt to start.

3 year old timing chain appears to have broken. None of the front rocker arms move. Put new single roller chain in with the VS cam 3 years ago. Appears the valves are bent, when I push on them they move in a little but don't come right back.

People need to buy some intercoolers!!!!!!!!

ZZP single meaning a rollmaster or stocker?

Not sure what kind of mileage you have..but I put 50K on a JP single with 105's s1x, then added heads, 1.8's on top of the s1x and 130#. It looked new when it cameoff.

ZZP's new website doesn't have any of my order history so I'm going from memory. I think it was a single rollmaster, I wanted to replace the chain and sprockets not just the chain. I replaced the valve springs with 90#'s and the tensioner was also new. The VS cam and stuff probably has about 45,000 miles on it although the engine has 183,000 miles on it. Won't know what happened till I pull the motor, maybe the bolts broke holding the cam gear on.

Looking around on car-part . com and there are 3 L26 motors with around 10,000 miles on them for $500. I'm thinking one of those with the set of NEW crate motor heads(never been run) that I bought of ebay awhile back. Swap in my VS cam, phenolic intercooler and up my Gen 5 pulley size to 3.4 or 3.5. what do you think?

I think you start off with a larger pulley and a whole new tune. should be pretty good.

Sounds like a good swap. And a helluva good price on the engine. If I was close, I would come lend a hand.

What head gaskets do you recommend? Should I use the Cometic and the ARP head studs on my application?

Depends on where you want your compression to be. Someone was selling a set of HG's that would lower compression slightly in an NA motor to make a top swap easier to tune etc. I'd automatically get the ARP stud kit if you are bolting heads on. It's such a nice and easy kit. I'd also copper spray both sides of the HG's automatically.

HSK-671 ARP GM Series II/III 3800 Head Stud Kit
GP-0xx Cometic MLS Head Gaskets (intense .065 4-layer) Thickness: HGP-065 (should lower compression .1)

Intense carries JP timing sets and ZZP carries Rollmaster. Is one better than the other? or should I stick with the low mileage stock chain from the junkyard motor?

ZZP says rollmaster is better, Intense had told me a couple years back that they hadn't heard anything bad about the JP's from customers.

Most guys say stick stock unless you go double.

Sounds like I would have ben better off with the stock 183,000 mile chain. I bought a chain set from intense to put on my new motor but it is a JP set identical to what just failed. I guess I will return it and get one from GM. I want to run the balance shaft with the VS cam because I've heard it is smoother. The car is a daily drive and I hated the 3" exhaust, I had to put restrictors in tips to get rid of the annoying resonance at 1800rpm. I believe removing the balance shaft could be annoying also.

So it was a JP that failed? I heard the JP doubles failing..I hadn't heard of any singles. I was running a single. Good thing Len put on the double that I had given him with the motor.
