phasing in and out randomly but not frequently....
I would have to guess either dirty or contaminated fluid or air trapped in the system. Or...the worse case, the pump or rack starting to go out.
I would suggest to do a power steering system flush and see if that helps.
To do, car up on jack stands, have a funnel and a buddy under the hood, and you or him standing out side the car turning the steering wheel.
You want to unhook the rubber return line from the power steering pump reservoir and plug off the little nub it attaches to on the reservoir You then tie up the rubber line so it dumps into a drain pan under the car. I like to use an extension hose affixed tot he stock rubber hose to get it out further from under the car, so who ever is under the hood with the funnel can see whats coming out.
Start the car and you want to turn the wheel all the way to the left and right with out going to the full stop rotation each time. Do this back and forth till he yells to stop and turn off the car.
Meanwhile while your turning the steering wheel, hes under the hood slowly pouring in fresh new power steering fluid and that is flushing out the old. Usually it takes about 2 full bottles for a flush. You want to stop flushing when the old fluid coming out the return hose goes clear.
Then reconnect the rubber return line, and fill to the correct line of the dip stick.
You will not believe how good this makes your car drive after your done. Makes it feel and drive like new again.
If this didn't solve your problem...then we can take it to the next step.
