    Ignition control module = ICM.

The brick that the coil packs bolt to.

oh ok, that makes a bit more sense. I think i heard about that at some point when looking at everything but I don't think it was ever actually looked at. Is there a way to test that without replacing it though? I also replaced the fuel pump to be sure it wasn't caused by lack of fuel at higher RPMs. Also, injector seals replaced, injector flush, valve cover gasket replaced, oil pan gasket replaced, water pump replaced, belt tensioner replaced, both belts replaced. I think the exhaust manifold gasket was replaced as well.

They can test ICM's at some auto parts store, but alot of the time it can test perfect and still be a bad unit.

If you know anyone with another 3800, take the few minutes to swap ICM's quick and take the car for a run, if the misfires stop, you found the issue.

thanks I'll have it looked at. certainly a better start than straight up tuning it only to find it was the ICM.

I can't ethically remove a cat from my vehicle when i'm studying civil & environmental engineering. I want to keep it within the legal limits. I want to fix the misfires and get the car running up to par.

It's not even that bad for the environment if you do it lol the movie vans should have it but it slows the car down and a performance car shouldn't

If you do some research you'll find out your car probably could run on an open downpipe for a year and not even touch the carbon footprint a hybrid makes on this environment, just food for thought

What part of "i'm keeping my car legal" do you guys not understand? I need any help on diagnosing the problem and fixing it the legal way. Not cutting out a cat which is illegal since my car was made in 2004 with a cat required to meet it's emmissions requirements for that model year of vehicle.

You have a HFC in the ZZP DP.

    I don't see how that's the issue.

If it's tripping an SES light, just get the code tuned out via a tuner.

Have you cleaned the TB in that thing recently?

Basic tune up, plugs/wires/clean coil terminals, clean ICM surface and where it sits on the coil bracket?

    Seafoam the car?

Just tossing out ideas for you.

    Florida has no emissions...wat?

The requirements for vehicle inspection in Florida are far simpler than they were in the past because Florida no longer has laws regulating vehicle emissions. Currently, vehicle inspections only verify that the vehicle being driven is, in fact, the same vehicle that is to be registered. In many cases, such as new vehicle registration and registration renewals, an inspection is not necessary
    Floridians, plz verify?

Another point, why do you all assume that cutting out the cat would magically fix the misfires? It could be another problem, that's why I was asking in the first place. I'll have to get it diagnosed and hopefully get the issue pinned down. I think I'll take off the coils and ICM and clean that up some just to be sure it's not a connection issue at all. But anything requiring more work than that, especially computer diagnostics, wil have to be done at a dealer/shop.
