I have a weird issue with my buddys 98 regal gs im trying to diagnose and I am stumped. What I was told is he drove the car with no coolant and it overheated on him, and then it wouldnt restart. After some quick checks it doesnt look like the gaskets are gone on it, and it starts and idles now. The car will start to sputter and miss while driving eventually stalling out, and becoming verey difficult to restart. The scanner I have is bringing up 3 codes, a P0507, P0442,P0306. I was thinking CPS at first but everyone with that issue says its mainly no sputtering, adn it just dies. The other issue is the gauge cluster is unfunctional, Every light is lit up, no gauges work, except for MPH. Any input would be great thanks for any help

well from what i looked up my guess would be start with going all around the car checking for and EVAP leak, replace the PCV valve since its cheap, try and clean out the EGR as well as replace the gasket to be sure, also take out and clean the IAC valve or just replace it to make sure its good. Also check everywhere for a vac leak also while your at it clean out the TB the P0507 code basicly describes all those little problems, the P0442 is evap leak i had the problem on my car for a while but found the leak and fixed it real easy like. and the P0306 is misfire for number 6 but that would (from what your describing) most likely be caused by the P0507 code so start working on that code and the evap leak. Hopefully the misfire will go away once you get the first code fixed. Good luck man!

Being a Regal, if all that is lit up on the dash...you need a cluster.

Looks like Spartan is your buddy in looking up the codes for you.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Pop it off when the key is off and clean the end of it and the hole in the Tb. Put it back together. Reason I say key off, is because you can mess them up if you do it with key on.

hey sorry iv been busy today so this is the first time iv seen you response. But, with the IAC (just because im a nervous freak) i would just buy a new one. They dont tend to break or mess up mainly only get durty and clogged, but its not very expensive like 25 bucks or something like that so i just bought a new one for my car just to be sure lol and i agree with bill on cleaning the TB crud tends to build up in the TB and cleaning it is pretty easy. Plus, Bill, i enjoy looking up new things about any car really. Im in school getting my certification to be a master mechanic so the more i learn the better
