ok anything else you suggest then because that does drop me lower then my budget???
For a bone stock '97 GTP I'd do it like this...
ZZP 3.4" MPS Setup...
Ported Supercharger Case (You can PM Reptile on here for one, or PM Abrasaive...he has one FS as well)
DHP Tuned PCM...from 3800performance
180* T-Stat
Autolite 104 Spark Plugs
New Solid Lower Engine/Trans Mounts...because of age...those are probably shot...
ZZP, Intense, or WBody Store Poly Upper Mounts/Bushings
Those EBay headers I linked you to
Get a Spectre filter from your local autozone...just toss it up to the throttle body...open cone intake FTW
For maintenence...New Lifetime warranty plug wires, PCV valve, fuel filter, s/c oil change, new coupler, new S/C belt & Serpentine belt, coolant flush and replace with green or yellow stuff...and get those LIM gaskets done too...especially with a 14 year old car.
ok so lower engine and trans mounts from a auto part store or from zzp???
3800 performance pcm??? i was planning on a overkill pcm ??
3800performance sells the DHP PCM...best mail order tune out there...unless you planned on actually taking your car to Will @ Overkill...but since your in Ohio...that might be quite a drive for a tune...your better off putting all those mods on it...and taking it to Paul Jerkatis @ Welcome to PRJ.Performance
And yeah, solid rubber transmission mount from your local auto parts store...and a poly engine mount from ZZP...I have found out that the solid rubber mounts aren't as tall as the factory fluid filled ones...and tend to let the engine lean to the left some...since they are shorter.
well my plan was to buy hptuners over the winter.... this pcm is to just get me threw till that money is available...
In all honesty...if you have a way to scan...example...get an Aeroforce scan gauge...
I wouldn't waste money on a mail order PCM if you plan on tuning it yourself.
If that tends to be the case...I'd buy the tuner as your first mod...and be smart about it
is there other tuners then hp tuners???
DHP...Digital Horsepower's interface...but it is no longer sold since DHP is out of business...in order to get your hands on one, you'd have to keep checking the classifieds and snag one up there.
yea hptuners is kinda pushing the price limit....
i can do all the mods and then just not put the pully on correct??? it will need tuned after the pully
Right...still depends on the car though...some cars knock...others won't...you really can't tell until you run it...scan it...toss the pulley on...scan it again. Worst case scenario is your knocking on a 3.4" and headers and you'd just need it tuned to get rid of the knock.
I will do live tuning... Meet me somewhere up in the michigan area after you get it all done.
If you didnt screw up the mods (IE... Pulley is not too small, headers dont leak, intake isnt retarded) you dont need to be tuned. Only mods that require tuning are injectors and radical cams (xp/VS/S1x are not radical)can do all the mods and then just not put the pully on correct??? it will need tuned after the pully
A properly tuned 3.4" setup would hand a non-tuned 3.4" setup car its ass. Proven at the track here and on the street.
This talk of not tuning anything is always been pretty lame, there is plenty of room left in a stock tune vs. a custom one...just because it doesn't knock, doesn't mean the tune can't be improved on. MAF tuning needs to be done as well if your not running a stock throttle body or MAF...the PCM just can't re-learn that...been there, done that with my LQ4
ill consider it... id be happyer with owning hptuners... but thats going to throw me out of the budget about $100... i might have to up the budget a little
apples to oranges...
Just because you are fixing mechanical issues with a 3.4 pulley car with the PCM..... it does not mean you HAVE to tune it to go fast.
We had super mild cars in the 13's with pcm's back before tuners were around... When the tuning thing got popular... we might have been able to get another tenth from faster shifts/less shift managment.
If your timing is 16, and your fueling is right.. you cant tune more power into a car.
So what's the point of running higher timing than 16*?
Pretty sure that's in the tune...and my 20+* I've been running isn't "fixing mechanical issues"...it's faster...WAY faster than stock 16* of timing...I could tell a difference from 16 to 18 to be honest. And a properly tuned car with 16* vs. a properly tuned car with 18 to 20...it would dog walk it.
Im the cool guy running 14-16*
I had 18* in my 3.5" pulley car. Stock injectors. Pump gas with PEM's and a 3" DP.
It took it all day long and went 13.8x with just 1.84 rockers...stock everything else. Didn't knock. I'm sure it could have taken more. And I'm in KC...not much flatter than that...on average I think from 700-1000 feet.
