Well I just got done with a rebuild little over 1000 miles ago. Cammed with a few small goodies. Was a nice morning(until this) so I decided to cruise around. Nothing leading up to it, the car just shuts while I'm driving at about 45 mph. Now it turns over but it doesn't catch. Any ideas to what it could be?

If you let it sit for a while and cool off will it start again? If so could be the CPS. however, if its related to the Cam I couldnt tell you i have no experience there :P.

However, I do know the CPS is a common thing to go in these cars and will cause the car to shut off randomly and take some time to start back up I had the issue on my bonnie a few times

Did you notice if the tach dropped to 0 before it died? If so then I would suspect a faulty CKPS as mentioned above.

Since you just did a rebuild then I would go over ALL of your electrical connections and see if maybe one worked its way loose, seeing as how the entire harness had to disconnect to pull the motor. Maybe a clip got busted on one. Heck, start w/ the crank position sensor plug and go from there. Could just be that simple.

Changed the cam and crank sensor. Still not starting. I can't find any vacuum leaks. It turns over fine but its not catching. I'm all out of ideas. Any help?

have you checked for fuel and spark? yall jumping to sensors and we don't even know if the engine has met all the requirements to run yet.

Yes it has fuel and spark. Those were the first things I checked.

Brandon we were just suggesting a normal problem that occurs when an engine is already running and then shuts off. Such as what was stated. My assumption was that everything normal was checked or thought of since the car was running before it shut off. And its somewhat personal experience

These motors almost always start with fuel and spark. If it's turning over nice (w/o odd sounds) then likely you are missing one.

Are the plugs wet? Dry them and the cylinders if they are wet. Sometimes we soak our cylinders when we try to diagnose other issues.

Triple check for spark. ensure the icm connector is snug.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Plugs should be wet if you are getting fuel and its not firing.

Well fuel is coming out the line when I turn the key. Is there a way to test the injectors?

Got it in the shop. It's getting no compression. Possibly a broken chain so fml. Only 1000 miles on the motor too :/

if it's a broken chain and you attempt starting it, im assuming the crank would spin and not the camshaft, resulting in a **** ton of noise, binding, valves smashing ect. so driving down the road and all of a sudden no compression? were you overheating? normally these head gaskets don't go. did you hear any odd noises when this happened? what do the plugs look like? is there oil on them?

It was the timing chain. It's a non-interference engine though so the valves should be good despite me putting a larger cam in.

Actually... Just got the call. Two valves are bent. What caused the chain to break was the magnet on the cam sprocket being put on backwards. Being genorous with number, its gonna cost about 3200 total to get fixed
