Hey, is anyone running the vs cam form zzp? Any feedback on that grind? Can I still use 1.7 rockers with the cam? Their website sais I can but I figured I would ask... I was always under the impression that rockers do the same thing the cam does...

XP cam seems a bit more aggresive.... I didnt want to play with the retainers and the timing set yet... althought the vs setup i have in mind does seem pretty close to the xp...

If you don't want to play with retainers, springs or valve seals, I'd recommend not installing a cam. Our springs can/do get weak with time and the added stress of even a VS cam has been known to cause them to snap. In a perfect world VS is great, but I've personally seen too many springs break from the added lift/stress.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Ok.. What about running just the VS cam with the LS3 springs, and no rockers>? I think that should make for a pretty reliable set up... With out the rockers, the cam is only at 320.317 lift, and those springs should easily handle it... they are rated at #90.

    meh,

The fact that you have meth injection right now.. is going to hold your car back more than running a cam would make up for. Ditch the crap injection and get an intercooler/e85 setup, and make "cam like" power and get back the 30-40whp you are losing from meth injection.

How do you lose power from Methanol?

The point of it IS the poor mans intercooler.

Cooler, denser intake charge...more timing allowed...more boost from a smaller pulley. E85 still isn't a solution for plenty of people...that's the reason I haven't done that upgrade yet.

    Not practical.

:-) this cam is not going on my GTP. Its acutally going on my Lesabre Custom. The Buick is bone stock at the moment, and is about to be upgraded.

The only thing I would be concerned about with Meth injection is that it will strip the coating off of the supercharger rotors over time.

Everyone I know lost power with meth injection... It has no practical application if you ask me.

If somehow you made more power with it, it was in an unintercooled setup that has some mechanical issue.

Then everyone you know...is doing it wrong LOL.

Also...who meth injects an intercooled car? People upgrade from Meth injection to intercoolers. The only way they'd loose power is if they are running a garden hose sized nozzle and drowing out the car.

Everyone here locally has had nothing but good things to say about methanol...especially running 100% like we do.

dyno proven or "omg smallz pulliez" proven? Plenty of people that have done the meth thing show they can run a 3.0 pulley on a mostly stock setup, but still run 14's.

That point is moot...because those people apparently can't drive.

Changing the camshaft will affect not only valve lift, but also valve duration. With increased valve duration comes valve overlap, or the time both intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time between the end of the exhaust and beginning of the intake stroke. The degrees of crank rotation the intake valve begins to open, starting before the exhaust valve completely closes creates a scavenging effect in the combustion chamber which drastically helps remove spent emissions, and cram fresh air/fuel charge in, especially at high RPM & during boost/positive manifold pressure situations.

Rockers will only affect valve lift or how far it opens, and do so mildly. You take the measurement of the cam lobe and multiply it by the rocker arm ratio for your valve lift.
