Did you remove the side bolts?

    They are side bolt mains.

If you did that...vice grips and a rubber mallet...have at it.

Also make sure to mark them so they go back in the same place.

they are all numbered and have arrows pointing toward the front made in.
as does just about every motor i have tore apart... why would you need to mark them?
i am beginning to wonder about some people.....

when you remove main caps you always want to put them back where they came from, that's just the rules of engine building 101.

I think he just meant be sure to keep them in order and don't move them around or put them in facing backwards.

    It has been done...

What OP meant was... They are already marked and don't need marked again.

ive seen caps not marked a lot, but they do come marked from the factory. i was under the impression he wanted to know why they were marked. my bad.

Don't know if you got the caps off or not, but I ended up making a slide hammer to pull them off.

I used a flat peice if steel with holes drilled the same width of the cap holes. I threaded the center to put a long rod on it to make the "Slide" part with a 2" dia round stock with a hole in the middle. At the top of the rod I put a couple of nuts and washers for the "Hammer" part to hit on.

I used concrete anchors that are kinda shaped like a bell at the bottom of them and have a "sleeve" that goes over the body. Slide the stud part into the cap hole, slip the sleeve in the holes, put your plate on and secure with some washer and nuts. Once you get it tight, start hammering upward, and the caps come straight up and you don't have to worry about damaging the caps.

If you want I will try and get a pic for ya.

    I hope this helps.
