Questions you need to just...ummm...
Not to be an asshole but you seriously have no idea what your doing.
Poor Joey....
Vendor heads (ZZP, Intense) are Extremely ****ing expensive...
You can take your stock heads to a machine shop, and get a Stage 5+ job for less. I know Blue has been saying he's got a shop that does amazing work.
If you want a badass cam, then expect it to not really be a DD.
YouTube - instense stage 3 cam idle
Sexy sounding idle for the IS3 Cam.
when he went to 3k RPM i loved that sound..
You need a real car already.
One with so many head and cam choices you will be infinitely more lost
The upside will be it will sound dirty even with a stock cam.
ohhh...
"I want the best sounding cam"....I love that...
So, is the IS3 decided?? And what about heads?
/Truth.... IF i ever sell my GTP (which i dont think would be hard unless i break it again FML) i would be interested in a Dodge Challenger or G8 GXP. had plans to buy a challenger before i got deployed.... (FMLx2)
I'm just really interested in what the MPG would be with this cam i can hardly i find many people who run it currently and i need to know which tuning options i would need with this setup.
Lol....S3 heads to match XD.
Machine shop will be less, for more. Got a quote from a shop in Jax for the works, for $600 as long as I supplied the exhaust gaskets, intake manifold gasket and valvetrain components...
Either way, camming a car will drop mileage. I see no reason you couldnt get 25mpg on the highway, staying out of boost. City driving would be considerably lower. Probably 15-18ish, but that's a guess.
And not sure what you mean about which tuning options...You'd need a full blown tune. Start on the dyno, and once you've got a good setup, go out on the street and adjust accordingly.
Beat yah to it... Unless you want a beater car at a meet, lol.
And it was this site...
Engine Repair, Engine Replacement, Cooling System Repair, Precision Machine Service, Inc., Jacksonville, FL
Located in Jax. Said they've done a few L67s before, and are familiar with how picky the motors can be
Yes, this is so true for our cars. The "not suited for street use" many people believe, doesn't really apply to any of our cars. EVERYTHING on the market for our cars would not hinder it useless on the street. Ya, your not going to get that 35 MPG, but its not going to be anything like 15 MPG.
A promod, or blown big block all out race car...ya...probably not a good choice for a DD obviously. You can make any modified car a DD, or a weekend play toy, or a all out race car/trailer queen. Just up to the driver, and what they want.
Before anyone builds an engine up, I always ask them, WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS? WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN THE CAR?
Good gas mileage, nice smooth idle? Get a small cam, or rockers.
Don't care about gas mileage, and have some money to blow and want your 3.8 to sound like a small block V8 at idle? Get ya a big ass cam and build it up.
I have the IS3 cam and heads on my engine, love em. I have taken road trips, track passes, and just cruising around town. Sounds mean at idle, turns heads at stop lights, or at gas stations with the lope of the cam. I'm not die hard go to the track EVERY WEEKEND ya know. Built strong, so it can handle the abuse, and sound mean, didn't really care about fuel economy. I still don't. Never did the math on my MPG what I get to this day. But its not bad by any means.
Only annoying thing with the large cam on the street I see or feel, but I have learned to live with, is the slight jerking at a stop light. The car wants to jump forward every other pop of the exhaust. You just kinda have to ride in the car to feel and understand that. Hard to explain. You can kinda feel your head moving back and forth at a red light because the car is shaking so much. POLY mounts just add to it.

Thanks man, now ive seen a few people with the IS3 as a DD and they all say the MPG isnt too shabby I found a IS3 Cam for 200$ and im considering get a machine shop to do the heads because i dont feel like paying intense 1900$ for a job that maybe cost 800-1000$ tops
LOL, my heads were well less than a grand.
And my TEP build nets around 17-19 in town and over 30 on the highway with pump 93, 3.1" pulley, and whatever else I got that is totally pointless.
