    Anybody have anything?

While driving yesterday, the trans was acting wierd. Would feel like it was starting out in 2nd gear, and then felt like it would go into 3rd, but felt like the TCC kept locking and unlocking. I got it home and parked it because I was busy as crap last night. Woke up this morning and forgot that there was something wrong, and tried to drive it to work. I first noticed that the car hesitated a touch after pushing the gas down. I then noticed that it would not shift into 1st gear.

I pulled over and flipped through the aeroforcetech gauge to see if I could see anything immediately wrong, and the only thing that came up wierd was the TP% and TP voltage were both stuck at zero, no matter what I did with the gas pedal. I got the car home, and pinned between the two outside wires on the L67 TP plug, and had 5.3VDC.

Is the 5.3VDC normal, or should that be at 12V? Of course the GTP is my DD, so for right now, my wife is stuck having my motherinlaw take her to work. Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Zach

edit: I can only assume that my problems yesterday are related to the TP circuit being miffed somewhere. I would imagine that inconsistant TP numbers would make the trans freak out.

Ok, an update. I cant remember what website I found this info on, but I did a search on yahoo, and found that the referenced voltage is only 5V, so at 5.3V I would say that I am getting voltage to the sensor. I do not think I am getting anything out of the sensor though. I will have to test again when I get home, but I just talked to autozone that is 20 miles from my house, and they STOCK those sensors in the store under P/N TPS140. I thought my Northstar TB was an 'older' unit, so I had him check on the 1997 Deville part numbers as well as the 1999, and the dude said they use the same TPS sensor.

$43.99, so I guess if I can verify that I am getting voltage and a solid ground for the sensor, I am going to replace it and cross my fingers. Wife was a bit pissed this morning when I told her I was taking the SS to work and that she would have to call her mother for a ride. :-/

Now an even better question would be if my TPS sensor not sending any singal out would cause the trans to not shift out of first gear. Lets hope so.

If your TPS sensor fails, it will most definitely cause and issue with the transmission shifting.

    Quick update.

I looked everything over when I got off of work, and was starting to get pissed. I was getting voltage to the stock plug. I was getting voltage past the l67->northstar pigtail. I was getting voltage back through the ref wire where the pigtail connects to the stock wiring. But the PCM was still seeing nothing. I had spare PCM, so I tried that, and still nothing. Ended up doing some tracing of wiring, and some stupid **** (me) had tapped into the TPS wire for his nitrous sytem. It was a quick solder hack job as I had to get it running asap, and I had planned to fix it at a later date. Well the later date never happened, and the wiring finally came apart.

I cut and re-soldered the wiring, and the car runs smooth as **** now. No jumping/hunting at idle, no funny transmission shifting.

Damn me and my hastiness. If you are going to do a job, do it right the first time to prevent headaches later!!!

Well, at least now you have the experience and lesson under your belt and theres just no replacement for that.
