    going to be changing my water pump on my 06 GT this coming week and was wondering how hard it is and if anyone has a step by step diagram on how to tackle the job? the dealership calls for 1.5 hrs so it cant be that bad to do but just want to make sure im not getting into something thats gunna be a pain in the a$$ to do. thanks in advance

    not sure on my 06, never had to change it. thank god! but my wifes 98 cutlass ( same thing as the malibu ) is a freakin' breeeeezzzeeee....3.1L v6 i believe. Try youtubing waterpump for the 3.8L GM? maybe they're is a video.

    obviously not the same 3800 thats in your 06 but close enough, basically still same engine....

    Just discoonect the battery.
    loosen waterpump pulley bolts
    remove belt
    remove coolant res for extra room
    remove water pump pulley
    remove water pump bolts
    remove water pump
    clean matting surface on block
    reinstall reverse order
    01 gtp-big cam e85 dd 78dodge- guzzling fuel 05 cummins- rollin coal

    They are easy and cheap. you need a 5/16, 8mm,10mm,13mm

    you also need to move the ps pump out of the way. the trick to that are the holes in the ps pulley to loosen the pump from its bracket. you don't have to disconnect the lines --- you just need to move it out of the way to get at the water pump bolts.

    Dont forget the t50 socket to remove the s/c idler pulley to get that last long bolt on the bottom right of pump, i had to find this out the hard way...

    Do this~!!! Exactly what they said...did mines today...and can confirm this =P

    make sure u scrape ALLLLL of that old gasket off...

    Which way did u turn the t50 to get the pulley off cause i was told it was reverse threaded and turned it clockwise and snapped off the t50 socket into the pulley bolt, and that was with WD 40, either the bolt is really not reverse threaded or autozone's duralast sockets suck ass...

    So my car is now dead in the water unless i can somehow extract the broken piece out, old water pump is just hanging by that last screw

    Does anyone know if the metal mount thing on the motor the pulley is attached to can be removed, or is it just part of the engine block?

    Instead of worrying about taking just the pulley off I just removed the mount the pulley is on, only 3 more bolts I believe.

    what size bolts were they?

    those bolts are like impossible to get to (i got the upper right one to move that's it), esp the one on the bottom, how did u get to them?

    ummm I didnt need to do any of this. not sure what u broke but I just took the pulley off. are you talking about power steering or idler?
