What I'm doing is usind an L26 with my L67 heads. I have engine on an engine stand, and had it upside down to remove the oil pan to install the front cover after installing my cam. My question... I Heard that there is an issue with these oil pumps priming after the oil has run out.? I heard of people packing pump with petroleum jelly to help prime? Is this something I should be doing or what?

Just put some oil in the pump, then when you go to start it prime it a few times by disabling fuel and cranking for 15secs about 5 times.

I fill the oil pump up with petroleum jelly before the front cover goes back on. It will break down in the oil easily.

You can also use white lithium grease too, same thing, but it will screw with you, as it breaks down, it will turn the oil a milky color, and make you think your coolant is leaking into the oil. That's why i stick with petroleum jelly myself.

Pack the oil pump gears full, and retorque the pump cover correctly, and evenly, and your good to go on that part.

I'm about half way between York and Harrisburg in Etters, PA. Not too far from Hagerstown. Should have car done by spring time. Too much other stuff going on right now.

I just lubed mine with oil since I was going to prime and start the engine the same day. If it will sit a while the grease would be the best way.

I was thinking about just filling it with oil, but I figured that when I turned it over to install the oil pan, it would all run out. I think the petroleum jelly sounds like a good way to go.

I end up seeing a lot that were sitting around or oil filter adapters have been off etc.

Usually I pull the ICM connector and crank away a few times (like previously mentioned) and it works great every time.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
