Humidity makes a big difference
I'm sick of my IAT's being 40* over ambient cruising and at the track so I will be putting my CAI back in next weekend hopefully. According to all the HAI humpers out there I should start running much more rich, correct? I am on a HAI tune that won't be changed. I am seeing a ~10.5 AFR right now. This should prove it once and for all, right?
footballplaya, i have noticed a couple of things:
1. every car is different.
2. no matter what anyone finds to be true, there will always be someone else to say "no your wrong i dont care."
Whatever a gibby is tuned you rich, homie.
I love how you guys totally divert from what my post was about lol
your tune shouldnt change from an intake change. you running a 10.5 AFR is your tune being ****ty. get it retuned correctly and try again.
also, you're not on a pulley that requires an open cone, but the second you breach the 3.0 realm an open cone is a much better option since you KNOW there is no restriction in the intake.
We never finished my tune, I had a fuel line bust, that's why my AFR is so rich. It's a chit ton better than it was before though when it was in the 9's. Also my tune is for my 3.4" that was on.
Bio, I don't plan on going that small. Key word plan.
Just like I told myself I'd never go past a 3.4 setup lol
I honestly do not understand why your IAT's are so high once moving.
How much of the plastic cowling do you still have in the front behind the bumper cover?
I have a delema....i had tomaro planned out for a "simple intake" mod with a spectre 4" cone filter. then i started thinkn. now i dont have any mods n one of the first ones they say to do is the intake. i can see no problem there....as long as u do the headers and a pcm. but what if i dont have the ability to drop the loot for all three at once? when i raced MX if we messed with the air filter, i had to retune the jetting on my yfz. my dad has a 400hp gsx and he tunes with dsm link off of a laptop(ya....a ricer lol). now when he floors it the computer is no longer in play....its all about his tune setup. well what about me???? i cant tune or monitor anything. when i floor my gtp after completly changing my intake from stock design....wont i be leaning my car out? does opening up our intakes not allow more air into it causing factory tunes to be leaned out? if not, if my gtp can handle this change with no negative results...then im installing my "HAI" tomaro. Does anyone know the truth behind this?
Band me if you must/want but im tired of this bs, a boosted car with access to any air will suck in as much air as it can. 9psi is 9psi since our cars run hot the colder temp is what we want. If you don't have enough air drop a pulley size. Since most people cant flow a stock gen 3 m90 on a 3.25 I vote for the cai to save what pain we put these motors through, but what the **** do I know I only have a degree in mechanical engineering so I must be dumb.
Mechanical Engineering degree ='s "band me"
An intake is an intake in the overall realm of things who cares......... I know one thing if I had an engineering degree I wouldn't drive a GTP
Sorry i missed this matt. i have no idea why their so high, ive just accepted that HAI's are chit unless you have no other choice like me. there are just lots of lies that people believe about how "good" they are. IAT's dropped to about 30* over since I partially stuffed my filter in my fender well but I don't expect it to get any better. I have removed quite a bit of the plastic cowl crap, probably a lil too much.
You realize though if it's 95* outside anyways you're still sucking in 95* air while moving with a CAI. Cold air intakes may be better, may not be better, when moving I've noticed IAT's about 15-20* over ambient. I don't know to many people making horsepower while sitting at a stoplight with their cold air intake, it is what it is......
All I know is I was happy with my 6* of KR drop on my 3.4 setup when I went to a CAI over a HAI. That's all the proof I needed.
