So the noise ive always been hearing has not gone away even after using seafoam (thought maybe a sticky lifter). So i decided to take the engine out and go through it and see what the deal was. I knew it was any pulleys because i took all belts off and noise was still there. Also thought it was tranny. unbolted the torque conver from flexplate. Still the noise. Wasnt exhaust leak either.
Got the engine apart and find that all pistons teeter-totter and move side to side badly. at the very top of each cylinder there is what looks like the piston ring didnt fully seat. And there is scoring on every cylinder. With the pan off. alot of side to side play. I know they should have a little side to side movement but as much as im seeing, is it normal? No up and down movement though.
I have a spare block in the shed that will be hot tanked, decked and have a cylinder hone done. What other things do u guys recomment i have done to the block? gonna have new cam bearings and balance shaft bearings put in obviously after hot tank. And i will most likely have the machine shop put the crank in and pistons/connecting rods put in as well. Im going to get ahold of Morads and get a set of L36 pistons. Are the connecting rods the same on the L36 pistons as the L67 rods?
