what is IC? lol im a noob
I was going to ask if you could install a cam yourself, but seems you're limited in knowledge not knowing what an intercooler was.
A decent cam can take the place of an intercooler and rockers to reach your goal for about $600 if you install it yourself. With labor, it will cost about the same. Pick your poison.
Get headers. Pacesetters are a small price increase over a power log and ported rear manifold and they work. Some complain about the larger primaries taking away torque... at 300+ crank, you won't notice it. I have problems breaking traction as it is. Any time I'm cruising below 40 and floor it, the transmission kicks down and I break traction.
Next, drop to a 3.25~ range pulley and get a tune. That's the key to preventing knock and destroying a motor. With that, you should be happy until the mod bug bites again.
to get roughly 300 crank horsepower doesnt take much. to get between 275-290 all you need is some basic mods that depending on where you buy and what you buy can run under a grand. you need a type of intake, ubend delete with either headers or a downpipe(headers are more expensive but are the way to go if you want to mod further), 180* thermostat, autolite 104 spark plugs, 3.4" pulley(again if you are going to mod further get the modular pulley system or MPS for short, trust me it's hard enough to take off the pulley once), and either get your pcm tuned or buy one that is pretuned from lets say zzp or intense. if you want 300 bhp then get headers, if you dont want to go that far get a downpipe and you'll be slightly below it, roughly. i have those mods and ran 14 even but i also had a full tank of gas and half a lower motor mount and couldnt find traction. so with those you have the potential to be in the low 14s high 13s. hope this helps
75 shot
Well, I dyno'd my GTP this past weekend. My car is making ~340 at the crank.
3.25" Pulley, VS Cam, Stage II Throttle Body, CAI, TOG Headers, All 3" Exhaust (no cat, resonator, or ubend), and a kick-ass tune.
what mufflers are you running with your exhaust?
Wow big #'s!!!
I just sold my '86 Saleen and ended up buying an '02 GTP. Im looking to put the smackdown on my cousin (the new Saleen owner). I would love to mess with him in my 4 door - ha ha.
Something i havent heard much about - water injection. I put it on my stang and got 45 hp gain running 50/50 water/meth. Im sure you can get the same #'s if you change the pulley with some minor mods. Right?
I'm about to become a modding nympho!!!
Ed
meth/alky on these cars isnt as useful as you would think. they are really best used as a supplement to keep the car from knocking.
ive heard it kills your top end though.
I had the following mods back in 2004 when I had my 97 GTP...
3.25 pulley $60 (back then)
FWI $80 in parts
full 3" exhaust $250
DHP PCM $125
180 t-stat $10
downpipe $0 (included in exhaust price)
104's $12
Total $537
I put down 255 whp and 310 ft lbs torq
Thats over 300 crank hp.... But don't get a 3.25 .... get a 3.4 pulley
I had alot of knock...
