And none of the threads I found matched exactly what my car is doing. Its a 98 Regal GS with 165k. The three codes I am getting are p0102, p0171 (o2 bank 1 lean), and p1404 (stupid EGR).
Steps taken so far.
1. Replaced the MAF
2. Checked for blockages in the screen and air intake system
3. Cleared the codes
The codes have not repeated but I've only done one 8-10 mile test drive since the replacement, but there have been some new symptoms since then. I still get the surging and killing right after start up which seems to level off after a minute or so, but now if I drive it or simply rev the motor the idle point gets higher and higher with each acceleration or rev up to 2k rpm at "idle." There is no hesitation during acceleration, perhaps a bit less gusto than there has been in the past but that's it, and no indication of misfire.
I am going to check the vacuum lines and harness wires tomorrow as that seems to be a recurring problem with the p0102, and check the fuse in the under hood box. Is there any other points I should be checking during this inspection that could cause the high idle?
