I was wondering if anyone knows how to disable their day time running lights ? Also if there are any pros and cons ? I heard it saves your bulbs so figured I would ask . thanks fellas .

open the side panel to your dash on the left side, and find the little black box in there, unhook the wires and bam you are done
^Wrong, pull the DRL fuse in the glove box. Doesn't work on some years but i know for a fact it works on 98's.
unplugging the DRL module under the driverside is the best way. If you pull the DRL fuse then your automatic lights won't work. I like the lights coming on when it's dark out. Less effort for me.
I agree, if you just unplug the module. The light will still come on automatically at dusk.
I know when to turn my lights on. I don't need automatic lights.
umm this sounds really fimilar probably because i posted about this about a month ago, but anyways what you want to do is:
1.Open the Glove Box
2.Remove the Panel covering the fuses(it is off to the right)(it should say "Remove For Fuses"
3.You can look on the back of the cover for "DRL"
4.On 97's it is the first fuse on the very bottom (going Left to Right)
5.Pull the Fuse and Test it out
*Hope this helps you
thanks for that info .
I pulled the little "black box" from my 99 GT and it did not have any ill wanted effects. Disabled the DRLs and left the auto headlights. IIRC its 00 or 01 where this stopped working. I wanna lean towards the 01 side since thats when some decent changes happened.
Since the OP has a 98, open the drivers side panel, remove "black box". Done. You will know what we are talking about when we say black box.
Mine's an '02. Unplugged the plug from the little box in the access hole with no ill affects, everything still works just fine, just no DRL's.
2 cents
Anyone have any tips for unhooking those wires on the driver's side? I tried for like 20 minutes last night and couldn't get the damn thing haha. There was sharp stuff all around so I got all cut up and I didn't know how to unhook them once I got ahold of them. Do you just push that blue button thing in or to the side or what?
There is a wedge-tab on the BACK side of the connector as viewed through the access hole. Do NOT use a sharp object. You need to depress the tab and pull the connector out. Do not attempt to remove the blue part, as you will break the plug. I have a photo-writeup around here somewhere that shows how to take it apart...
i have an 02 and i was trying to push the blue part too and got all cut up haha
But when i pulled the DRL Fuse i could here this high speed clicking nere the lower left of the dash when i put the fuse back in no more noise? but im going to try to unplug the black box and see how that works
^^^im getting the noise too...im working on getting rid of that now...look for a write up
pulled the connector on the black box and no more DRL's yay and still have my auto lights so thats worth the cuts haha oh and no clicking i read that thats the BCM not liking what your doing i think it does that because its not getting reference voltage? but if you pull the black box and leave the fuse it will not click so i just left the DRL fuse in everythings good so far
i have a 2k...and im going to try what i read...as far as the "black box" goes..the info on this site is great..thanks to evryone who wrote about this!!!
