I have a question about the GTP. I was told that if your cruiseing at like 55 mph and you put the pettle to the floor, it destroys your engine because the supercharger boosts to fast when it drops down in gear. Is this true? I dont get why the car wouldnt be able to handle what its made for. I just bought an 01 GTP, realy nice car . Had 120k on it when i bought it...50 miles later the mtr is junk . I have a new mtr on the way though. The car has no modifications at all. I dont want to ruin the new mtr either. If someone could help me out with this i would realy appresiate it. Thanx

I may have overlooked it but i didnt realy find my answer. im not looking to moddify my GTP. I just want to know if i can mat it to the floor and not worry about tearing the motor apart. Sorry dont mean to be a pain, but im new to the supercharged Grand prix, ive always had the GT.

If you beat on it yes it will break. Its pretty much common sense.

What grade of fuel did you use? Premium aka highest octane available at the pump is what the engine would like.

Smacking the pedal shouldn't hurt the motor at all. If anything the 4th clutch hub would take the hit and strip out (transmission part) long before the engine ever did. If your engine died within 50 miles of owning the car, I'd be questioning a lot of things. First being the person or place that sold the car.

well i know beating on any car will damage it over time....that is commen sence, thanx for that. i wantd to go after the guy but the car wont survive a 3 hour drive back to the dealer in CT. he wont warrenty it so were taking him to court, i'll get my money. The car hasnt blown but the crank is making nasty noises, so im puting a whole new mtr in it. the car had 120k on it, whats the life span on the supercharged engine? is there a problem with something else or did the mtr just get beat before i had it? the car shifts smooth and drives nice apart from the engine. thanx for your help guys, i apriciate it.

Did I hear CT? and ...needing a motor?

These motors are very strong and well built. I pulled my motor to cam it it at 186K miles. Strong..

Where in NY are you located?
BTW I'm pulling a motor/trans from a car that was rear ended. Knew the guy that owned it for the last year. 120K miles and it purred.

Im right by the mass boarder. i have a motor with 38k on its way. another week or so i should be driving the car....hopefully. i have a Gt right now and its about to turn 190k, never given me any problems. but a supercharged engine is a differant kind of animal, im still learning about it.
