Thats what i am saying l36 block and you will be fine. The main thing i would suggest to keep from killing it would be headers.

I'll have a tight budget, whatever I have is what's pretty much getting swapped over: plog and a 3" DP

Yea that will be fine. I was just trying to say that factory front manifold and dp = boom on higher compression.

I wouldn't run a 3.4" on high comp unless you have a cam or intercooler of some sorts. Keep the stock size and turn up the timing

Gotchya, when I first read about the front manifold it was about the first thing changed out.

No worries, the 3.4" isn't even going to be considered till I get plenty of other flow mods, shooting for stock size.

Smart man...you don't need more boost with the upped compression...the point of high compression is to make all that power with half the boost

so "in a perfect world" the high comp would be roughly two sizes/one "step" behind the low comp? Similar to a Gen V versus Gen III?

that would be the way to go about it. youll make the same power on lower boost with a higher compression motor with identicle setups.

Doing some more reading I found this in the "how to safely modify your car" thread

High Ratio Rockers – Thankfully GM made one thing simple…pushrod motors!! Stock GT/GTP cars came with 1.60:1 or 1.66:1 Ratio Rockers from the factory. There are a few choices that you have here to make some more power by letting those valves open more...
Which cars/heads had the 1.66:1 rockers? If I already don't have them on my car I figured to snag a set since every little bit helps.

be forewarned.....be prepared for possible headwork and all new valves. My piston thrashing also tore up my exhaust valves and seats.

ya a valve job should be done on any rebuild though I didnt have to replace valves but the seats were all trashed

ANd heads were cracked wich is pretty typical
