the oil pumps are pretty beefy and usually dont go bad. if your oil pressure light is on that means there is less than 5 psi, which is already very, very bad. that noise is probably the bottom end saying "AAAHHHHHH!!", but only you can figure that out.
I would strongly suggest to quit driving it, and drain your oil and make sure your not panning for gold. (bearing material shavings)
Oil is the life line/blood of any engine, EVERYONE should have a oil pressure gauge installed regardless. That's just my opinion though.

these may be dumb questions but..
1. what should oil pressure normally be at? 50?
2. wheres the relief valve? its the spring with cap over it isnt it?
cause im kinda havin a prob with oil pressure too. Not jackin your thread gxp.
i go from 50 to 25 at idle. somethings gota be wrong any suggestions? and oil is brand new and full same with oil filter
if your talking about the spring and cap 97gtsc, then it has be replaced.
Bio - mine will start at 50 when i first start it then drops to 25 when it warms up. so not necessarily an abnormal thing maybe?
no, its probably fine. all the excessive oil pressure people try and run (50+ at idle) is basically useless to have. you just need the oil pressure in the upper RPMs to keep the motor lubed.
Can you just replace the spring and cap? There is light metalic when you pull the stick.sounds like time to pull it apart. I just bought the car from the orig owner, figuring it needed a eng.
yes the spring and cap can be replaced.
Having a oil pressure gauge is nice, and what your gauges reads maybe different from another's from what I have seen first hand and learned.
The pressure sending unit may not be bad, just "different" with different gauge kits. Your not getting a 100% accurate reading because its usually not a very nice quality sending unit. It gives you an eye ball window look at what it is, not spot on.
So with that, any kit you buy and install is fine, and what it reads is fine, just remember what it says cold, and warm, and if that changes, such as goes lower than normal, then thats your heads up you have a problem before you trash your engine.
I have a carbon fiber Auto Meter oil pressure set, and on the stock engine it was installed on it always read 60 PSI regardless of cold or warm, it never dropped. When I built my current engine from the block up, I reused the sending unit, and now it changes from cold to warm like some others on there report. Maybe I jarred something loose with the R&R of the sender to where it reads different, dont know. It was odd in deed.
