Can anybody help me out on how to replace a front valve cover gasket on an 02 gtp. im just not to sure what all has to be removed.

remove supercharger belt IIRC then the belt tensioner and then coil pack bracket. The rest of the front valve cover bolts will be exposed
what does that have to do with what i posted
Yeah for the gt. GTP= valve cover gasket. Mine started leaking again after they did them.
mine has been holding since they did it
Yes. I wouldn't be surprised if your dealer tried screwing you...
the recall changed guys... It was the VC gasket at first, now its just changing of the metal plug retainers.
The REAL issue is the quick disconnects on the fuel rail. replace those with AN fittings and change your VC gaskets and enjoy your new "less fire prone" GP.
I could ask the same lol. Just what I've heard.
Either way, GT's will still need valve cover gaskets as well as LIM gaskets.
I am pretty sure the recall never changed. Probably just some retarded dealerships ****ing **** up like normal.
Yeah go figure.
Heres one I'm not sure anyone is aware of, my particular car was serviced for a coolant leak recall where they changed the TB gasket.
Anyone hear of that one?
nope. Just looked up all the recalls for the 01's on alldata, nothing about coolant leak and the tb gaskets.
You asked.
Recall Number: 08V118000Dates Manufactured: APR 1999 to JUN 2000Number of Vehicles Affected: 207542Date Owners Notified On: APR 2008GM IS RECALLING 207,542 MY 1997-2003 BUICK REGAL AND PONTIAC GRAND PRIX VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.8L SUPERCHARGED V-6 ENGINE. THESE VEHICLES HAVE HIGHER FRONT ROCKER COVER GASKET TEMPERATURES, CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR EARLIER DEGRADATION OF THE FRONT ROCKER COVER GASKET AND EVENTUAL OIL SEEPAGE. Consequence of Defect:
CERTAIN UNDERHOOD FIRES MAY BE CAUSED BY DROPS OF ENGINE OIL, FROM SEEPAGE OR SPILLAGE, BEING DEPOSITED ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD THROUGH HARD BRAKING. IF THE MANIFOLD IS HOT ENOUGH AND THE OIL RUNS BELOW THE HEAT SHIELD, IT MAY IGNITE INTO A SMALL FLAME AND, IN SOME INSTANCES, THE FIRE MAY SPREAD TO THE PLASTIC SPARK PLUG WIRE CHANNEL AND BEYOND.Corrective Action:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW FRONT (LEFT) ROCKER COVER GASKET WITH AN IMPROVED DESIGN FROM THE ORIGINAL GASKET AND REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE CHANNEL WITH NEW RETAINERS. DUE TO PARTS AVAILABILITY, OWNER NOTIFICATION LETTERS WILL BE MAILED IN TWO PHASES. THE CUSTOMER LETTERS FOR THE 1997-2000 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES WILL BE MAILED ON APRIL 28, 2008. GM WILL ADVISE AS TO WHEN THE OWNER LETTERS FOR THE 2001-2003 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES WILL BE MAILED. UNTIL SUFFICIENT PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE, GM STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT OWNERS OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS (1) THEY STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT OWNERS DO NOT PARK THEIR VEHICLE IN A GARAGE, CAR PORT, OR OTHER STRUCTURE; (2) IF OWNERS NOTICE A BURNING ODOR, THEY SHOULD HAVE THEIR DEALER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGE; (3) USE PREMIUM FUEL (91 OCTANE OR HIGHER) IN THE VEHICLE AS RECOMMENDED IN THE VEHICLE'S OWNER MANUAL. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080 OR PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668

Just what the dealership told me when I gave them my VIN to check for recalls.
And thanks silver

I love this ****... They state the EXACT same issue with the valve cover gasket and then just don't replace it.
I had the dealership that I worked at check for my recall and they still wouldn't do it for me. So, I had to print off the recall and brought it to the service writer. He was not very happy. I couldn't figure out if it was because he was wrong or if it was because he didn't want to do warranty work.
I don't think either of these fixes will rectify the problem. I use to have an old car that would smoke for 10 mins after I shut it off the rocker cover gaskets were so bad.. It never caught on fire. I know on my 2003 with 60k when I installed the I/C my injector o-rings looked horrible. If anything my money would be on those causing the fires.
