usually the blower resistor is at fault for the blower problem you describe. also its hard to guess what model car you have but im assuming its like an 01 gt.....check all fuses, seems something is wrong with the whole control unit. does seem strange that all things do not work except for number 5 on the blower switch.

We've had three GTPs and a GT in the family and all have had this problem. They will replace the resistors for the blower but the real culprit on all of ours has been a power distribution block or something in the steering colum.

My 2002 Grand Prix SE 3.1L has issues with the Fan Dial Knob. Blower motor doesn't blow air or heat while the Dial knob is at 1,2,3,4 but it does work only at the 5th dial knob position. Well for 3 months Dial knob stopped blowing on 1 & 2 dial setting, and 3,4,& 5 were fine. Now I lost all 1,2,3 & 4, but 5 dial knob setting works fine.. Would this be a Restistor Pack or Switch? Not sure where to start. Does anybody have ideas with my problem on my year and model car?
    All help is greatly appreciated..

I would start with the Blower motor resistor first. If that doesn't fix it, then the ignition switch.

I fixed the problem. I replaced my resistor pack and everything worked great.. However changing the resistor pack was a pain in the ass. If your a big guy, you might want to pay a garage to change thr resistor pack. The rear top bolt is a major pain to take out. The trick is, just loosen the top rear bolt about 4-5 turns and just loosen the rear side bolt about 4-5 turns, but take the front bolt all the way out.. The resistor pack wil then slide out of the bolts, and then slide the new resistor pack back in... I had to pull my carpet out of the way, and and cut the floor rubber and insulation just to get my small socket/wrench to get the top rear bolt out. I also had to use a craftsman small mirror to guide my socket onto the bolt because you are unable to see the bolt head.. Let's say that this small job took alot longer than expected and I was pissed of the whol time.. Plan on spending your time laying on your back and shoulders.. I will not do this job again.. Have fun.
