If your mod list is up to date in your sig, there's no mods I see there that would keep you from running an undrilled 180F. A 160F would be serious overkill and a drilled 160F may not allow you to have heat in the winter. (If you are in a northern climate)
I'd think you need to upgrade the radiator if you are having cooling issues.
A 160 for you is indeed overkill, however even if you install a 180 you do need to drill it. No if and or buts.
Being drilled allows a constant flow of (some) coolant therefor preventing, or at least helping to prevent the hairline cracks your heads from forming. Which these engines are surprisingly bad about.
I makes sense, because to put it very simply. Your not just dumping 'cold' coolant onto a hot motor all at once like you are without it being drilled.
wont a 160 degree thermostat cause the SES light to come on? something about it taking the engine too long to warm up?
the engine will still take the same amount of time to warm up to that 160*, but it will run cold, MPG will suffer, and you might throw an SES. a cold engine is always the fastest engine, but 160* is pushing that limit. thats besides the fact that your radiator fans will probably never turn off.
Drilled T-Stats = fail
Especially in a colder climate...just put a non-drilled 180* in your car...it'll run great.
