Hey guys, I have a friend who is selling a turbo, an msd ignition kit, and a boost controller all for like 300 bucks. im not to interested in the turbo or the msd kit, but the boost controller does sort of interest me, from what I can gather, its not possible to use the controller to modify the amount of boost that is put out by your supercharger but couldnt I use the controller to monitor the amount of boost, and to look flashy on my dash? the only reason I ask is that he said he would give it to me for 50 bucks, and some headlights I had layin around.

Don't waste your money...only way you can control the boost on a Roots style blower is by changing the pulley size.

yeah I knew that I just thought it would look cool, and do basically the same job as a boost gauge. all the boost gauges I've seen were like 50 bucks anyway. but thanks for the quick reply.

i get that, but my point was how it would look. Im not trying to be an a$$, i am somewhat of a noob on some things, but I feel like the wording of that message is a little condescending, i don't reply to your posts that way and I would appreciate it if you would pay me the same courtesy. thanks.

ok maybe i didnt make myself clear. this controller has a read out on it that tells the boost pressure, and looks really nice and would match my red LED interior, and instrument lights. my question was would it be possible to use the gauge function and not the control function. Once again I dont appreciate your attitude Bio.

You can probably use it for a boost read-out, but for a few bucks more, you can get a digital boost gauge that is designed specifically for that purpose.

i will say that most of us have autometer gauges, but if you want digital youre probably going to have to pick something else. i like my mechanical gauge because it shows for sure true vacuum and boost all the time.

Yup, I have the autometer ultralite...30 vac. and 30 boost...kinda pointless on the boost side but who knows...I might get there someday LOL

I remeber that i found a boost gauge on ebay for my camaro two or three years ago that read from 0-15 psi that was perfect for the m90. I could clearly read the boost and i diddnt have to deal with the vac side, which served me no purpose at the time.

EDIT: here it is. I know its not red backlit, but whatever

just for your knowledge, the vacuum side of the gauge is awesome for seeing if you have a vac leak or not..

Yea, but with a 0-15 gauge i can clearly read the thing and know exactly where my boost is at, especially since i cant log that through hpt without setting up a standalone two bar map system. gotta HPT and their incessant hate for our little 3.8l

Personal preference, whatever is more of a useful tool to the user.

Boost controllers are for turbo applications, it controls and can be adjusted to limit the amount of boost the wastegate is actually seeing, therefore allowing you to run more boost before the wastegate opens because the wastegates open under certain psi depending on the spring.

I have a few autometer guages and an aeroforce, but i may try a couple of these guages:

Tinted 7 Color 30 PSI Boost / Vacuum Gauge
    2001 GTP PT61 Turbo, E85, Stock Motor
    2011 Chevy Cruze MT6 1.4L Turbo

Wait...you can't log boost with the HPTuners Suite?
